SYNOPSIS

Date at SOS [1st real date]; lots of girls dancing with each other and holding hands while swing is being played; apparently this group defines "American blues" as "American swing" -- Lena, honey, stick to polka; Myrtle tells stories about her carny days and makes comments about con artists; Myrtle comments on the shortage of men, so Binks calls Boyd to invite him but he's dealing with Kendall and turns her down; Lena goes to the bar to buy a round and speaks with Michael, who asks her how the Bianca angle is working out; she tells him to go to hell; Lena returns with a guy for Myrtle to dance with, finally leaving Bianca & Lena alone; Lena tells Binks that her mother was a supermodel who didn't approve of her "lifestyle"; Myrtle's ready to call it a night and Binks offers to drive her home; Binks and Lena go into Myrtle's to get an umbrella and run into Kendall, who's storming out; Bianca & Lena say good night but all they do is hug; Lena leaves and calls Michael to tell him that Kendall was not successful; Michael tells her to romance the formula out of Binks; Lena is *not* happy

From About All My Children
http://allmychildren.about.com/library/recaps/2003/bl20030417.htm

Myrtle regales Bianca and Lena with her stories, saying that Lenny Wlasuk was a really sleazy kind of fellow, even by carny standards, "All charm and snake oil, what we used to call a flim-flam artist." Lena laughs at the term, and Myrtle tells her that's someone who appears to be one kind of person, but is actually another. Lena thinks that leading a double life must be exhausting, but Myrtle insists that flim-flam artists travel very light, with no heart, and no conscience. Bianca disagrees, saying that Lenny, a/k/a Langley Wallingford, made good when he married Phoebe. Myrtle tells her he had to get off that crooked path; there's always someone at the end of it, someone you've done dirty to, just waiting to get back at you. Lena laughs as she says Mrs. Fargate has led such a colorful life! "It's Myrtle," Mrs. F. tells her, "Queen of the midway - sees all, knows all." She says they were sweet to let her join their date tonight, and Bianca reminds her that she said they were going to see some of her famous dance moves. Myrtle looks around and notes that there seems to be a shortage of available men, "Listen, is this Ladies' Night?" The ladies laugh and say no, but agree that the men seem to be in the minority. Bianca thinks she knows how they can even things up here, and makes a phone call...

The phone rings as Boyd asks if she's telling him that she and Cambias are over? Ms. Hart suggests he get that, while she takes care of the wine. Boyd answers, and Bianca tells him to drop whatever he was doing, put on his zoot suit, and haul it down to S.O.S., "The music is hot, and Myrtle is looking for a Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy!" Boyd says he can't, that Kendall's here, and he hangs up...

We see Michael Cambias at the bar in S.O.S. as Bianca reports that it seems Boyd has other plans for the evening. Amused, Lena asks if he's playing with his chemistry set, but Bianca says he's playing with fire - Kendall's over there! The girls laugh heartily when Myrtle tells them she was once engaged to a fire swallower, but her love turned out to be heartburn! When Lena goes to get another round of drinks, Myrtle says she seems like a lovely girl, but she wonders how much Bianca really knows about her?...

Lena orders their drinks, and tells Michael there's good news - his plan seems to be working, and Larraby is with Kendall. Michael remarks that he hopes Boyd talks in his sleep, and Lena adds, "If she manages to get him in bed." Michael asks why she wouldn't, saying that Kendall's very seductive. Lena reminds him that Ms. Hart happens to be madly in love with him, but Michael says that's precisely why she'll go all the way with the boy chemist. "She's not like us, Michael," Lena tells him, but Michael says Kendall has had her share of dirty deeds in the past, and she'll come through for him. "For us," Lena corrects. Ignoring that, Michael asks if she's having fun tonight? Lena replies that, like Kendall, she has a job to do. Cambias says she does it very well, and suggests, "Just close your eyes and think of me." Lena picks up the round of drinks and tells him, "And you, my dear Michael, can go to hell!"

Bianca tells Myrtle that she and Lena are still in the "getting to know you" phase of their relationship, but she thinks she's just terrific. When Myrtle agrees that she can see that, Bianca asks if she thinks she's rushing things? Mrs. Fargate thinks she may be, just a little, and comments that young people give their hearts away so easily. Bianca insists that's not her anymore; she's far less open and trusting than she used to be. "Darling, I don't mean you should build a fortress around your heart," Myrtle tells her, "But just be careful who you let in." As Bianca nods, Lena returns with a man in tow; she tells Myrtle this charming gentleman was just admiring her from across the room, and he asked for an introduction. The man introduces himself as Alvin Armbruster, and asks if she'd like to burn it up on the dance floor? Myrtle says she'd be delighted. Telling the girls to behave themselves, she and Alvin take to the floor with relish.

"Alone at last!" Lena sighs, and Bianca laughs that she's sure she didn't expect a chaperone when she asked her out. Lena good-naturedly says Myrtle's fabulous, and she loves the stories about her carny days. Bianca agrees that Myrtle loves to talk, and she's sort of like a surrogate grandma/Auntie Mame to her. Lena says she is like her Auntie Rula, a neighbor back home in Poland. She recalls that she would go there after school, and her kitchen used to smell of hot coffee and ginger, "She used to tell me stories about gypsies and caravans, amazing adventures, all of which featured a young girl called Lena." When Bianca asks if she was a friend of her mother's, Lena tells her ubermodels have no time for little girls and silly old women. Bianca asks if her mother was a model, as well? Lena agrees, "Like yours. And like yours, she had trouble accepting that I was different." Bianca is surprised to hear that, as she thought Europeans had such a "live and let live" attitude about everything, but Lena tells her, "Not when it comes to their daughters." Bianca thinks maybe someday, but Lena tells her that sadly her mother died before they reached an understanding. Bianca is sorry, saying she knows how that feels, and explains that her father also passed away before she got the chance to really tell him that she was gay. She'd like to think he knew and was just waiting for her to feel comfortable enough to go to him. But, she never got the chance. Lena agrees that finding someone who accepts you for who you are is everything. Bianca tells her that her dad would have really liked her, because she's so honest. "You don't know that," Lena says quietly, and Bianca explains that she trusts her instincts; they've led her astray, but she knows that she has to keep taking chances. Lena thinks she's very brave, but Bianca tells her that her Uncle Jack says that you need to stand on the edge of where you are and look at where you want to be, and keep both eyes wide open and just jump. "You're not afraid?" Lena asks. Bianca admits, "I'm scared out of my skull." Lena reaches over and covers her hand with her own.

Myrtle comes off the dance floor, laughing that she hasn't danced this much since VE Day! She admits she has a tiny little headache, and says she's going to take a cab home and leave the two of them to enjoy themselves. Bianca insists there's no way she's taking a cab home, and they will drive her. Lena says maybe if she rests a few minutes, her headache will go away, "You don't want to miss the jitterbug contest!" Myrtle laughs that she jittered her bug long ago, and she is ready to go home. Bianca says it's settled, then; they'll drive her there, and she doesn't want any backtalk! Myrtle notes that she's stubborn like her mother, and Bianca agrees, "You bet I am!"...

Just then, Bianca and Lena burst through the door; Bianca says it's raining cats and dogs out there, and Myrtle is sick. Seeing that they walked in on something, Bianca says she just needs an umbrella for Myrtle. Kendall hurries out without another word, and Boyd tells Bianca he'll go take care of Myrtle and help her in. Lena says she thinks Myrtle will be okay, and she should go. "Oh, no," Bianca exclaims, "Please stay." Lena notes that it seems their evening ended before it began. Myrtle's not well, and Boyd's upset with Kendall over something, "Maybe we should try this again sometime soon." Bianca agrees she would like that, and Lena tells her that she likes her, more than she knows. Bianca smiles as she says she likes her, too, and they share a hug before hearing Boyd call out to Myrtle to sleep tight and let him know if she needs anything. Lena wishes Bianca sweet dreams; they smile at each other for a long moment before Lena dashes out into the rain. Boyd comes downstairs and tells Bianca he sent Myrtle up to bed with some aspirin and chamomile tea; she'll be fine. Bianca wisely notes that she has a feeling aspirin and tea are not going to be enough to fix what went on between him and Kendall. Boyd agrees, but says it's not Kendall, it's Michael Cambias, "Can you believe he sent her here trying to steal my formula?" Bianca asks if it worked? "No, of course not," Boyd tells her, "Tonight he proved he'll do anything to get it."...

Next on All My Children:
Maureen tells Maggie she just lied to Aidan.
Lena slaps Michael when he says Bianca is ripe for the plucking, “Who better to do that than the company whore?”
Kendall tells Greenlee she’s leaving, and she shouldn’t try to stop her. “I’ll help you pack!” Greenlee replies.
Boyd kisses Simone.

From Soap Slut
http://pub18.ezboard.com/fsoapslutfrm16.showMessage?topicID=74.topic

...I’m wondering if it’s Lesbian Night Out at SOS because there are quite a few girls in the background holding hands and being giddy together. Myrtle regales Bianca and Lena with carnie stories and they chuckle amusedly at them. Myrtle quite subtly (which surprises me) makes comments about flim-flam artists and being all-knowing and seeing. Bianca wonders if they’re going to get to see any of Myrtle’s dance moves that she was bragging about. Myrtle scans the crowd looking for a dance partner and comments that there seems to be a shortage of available men tonight. Perhaps because everybody else there is gay? Myrtle is apparently on my wavelength as she asks if it’s “Ladies’ Night.” Bianca decides to even the odds a bit and pulls out her phone.

Boyd answers his phone and turns down Bianca’s invitation to join them all at SOS because he’s dealing with Kendall. They hang up and Bianca informs the group of why Boyd won’t be joining them. Lena comments that Boyd may just get lucky. “On my sitting room sofa?” remarks Myrtle, horrified. Myrtle, you should have burned that thing after Frank and Smoan got busy on it...

Lena goes to the bar to buy the next round. Bianca is having cranberry and soda. Ooh, you maniac you. The *sshat is lurking around the bar where Lena informs him that Boyd is with Kendall right now. *sshat hopes Boyd talks in his sleep. Lena is skeptical that Kendall will follow through since she’s not cold, frosty, ice queens like they are. *sshat remains optimistic and asks Lena how her Bianca angle is working out. Lena shrugs that it’s just another job. *sshat smugly tells her to just close her eyes and think of him. Lena tells him to go to hell...

Bianca tells a cautionary Myrtle that she’s not as naïve as she used to be. Myrtle has been listening to The Police too much as she states that she’s not saying Bianca should build a fortress around her heart. Lena returns to the table with a guy for Myrtle to dance with in tow. Myrtle giggles and goes to cut a rug with the guy, finally leaving Lena and Bianca alone.

Bianca gets Lena to open up. Apparently, Lena’s mother was a supermodel who didn’t approve of her daughter’s alternate lifestyle. This scene is really hard to recap. It’s really good and intense because I think it’s the first time Lena really lays some cards down on the table...

Myrtle is ready to call it a night and declares that she’ll take a cab home. Bianca won’t hear of it and offers to drive her...

Bianca and Lena return. It’s raining and they’re getting an umbrella for Myrtle who is still out in the car. Kendall storms out and Boyd offers to take the umbrella to Myrtle, leaving Lena and Bianca alone once again...

Lena and Bianca bid each other goodbye but all they exchange is hugs. No bodily fluids. Yet, anyway.

After tucking Myrtle in bed, Boyd comes back downstairs only to be interrogated by Bianca about what happened with her sister. Boyd fesses up but true to form, he lays all the blame on The *sshat instead of his precious, precious Kendall...

Lena calls The *sshat to tell him that Kendall wasn’t successful. He deems Plan B to be in order. He needs Lena to get Bianca to find out the formula. Then Lena is to romance it out of her. Lena is NOT happy with the scenario...

On the next All My Children
Uhp, missed those too. Oh well.

PARODY

Lena parts are indicated in red for those who only want a Lena fix

It was relationship day on AMC
Greenlee went back to the office to find Carlos waiting for her.
Greenlee: I know I need to move on without Leo. Maybe I can move on with you. You remind me of him. You're.....you're....tall. And you're....you're....a man.
Carlos: So does this mean we might be a couple?
Greenlee: I've got to get out of here.
Carlos: Where are you going?
Greenlee: To my agent's office. Maybe I can get out of my contract early.

Later Greenlee ran into Michael at the gym.
Michael: How's your law suit going?
Greenlee: Why do you care?
Michael: I could buy into Fusion and help you out. All I'd ask is a small token percentage of your company in return. I'm only offering out of the goodness of my heart.
Greenlee: Forget it. Here, use this towel. You just left a trail of slime on the stair master.

Bianca, Lena, and Myrtle had their first date at SOS.
Myrtle: So then I said to Ike, I don't care if you're the head of the army in Europe, I don't boink on the first date.
Lena: You Americans surprise me. I thought you were so repressed sexually, yet you seem open to a three way relationship. I like older women, Myrtle.
Bianca: I guess it could be worse. At least I'm not stuck with Henry. Lena, I think my father would have liked you. You're so honest.
Lena: :::chokes on drink:::: Why do you think so?
Bianca: I have the same great instincts as all the other women in my family.

Kendall continued to try to seduce Boyd.
Kendall: I'm not with Michael anymore. He was so sophisticated and charming. I'm much more comfortable with you.
Boyd: Thanks - I think.
Kendall: Maybe that didn't come out quite like I meant it. I think I made the wrong choice Boyd. I should be with you and your formula, not with my darling Michael. Let's cuddle up here and you can tell me all about your formula. Do you mind if I take notes?
Boyd: He sent you here to steal the formula didn't he?
Kendall: What makes you think that?
Boyd: You blew it Kendall. I could have really loved you but you messed up the chance for a great relationship.
Kendall: Why do I keep doing things like this? It's like I'm genetically programmed to screw up.

Erica went to Jack's to give him her answer to his proposal.
Erica: I just need some space Jack. It's not you, it's me. I hope we can still be friends.
Jack: Save it Erica. It's marriage or nothing.
Erica: You mean...?
Jack: That's right - no ring, no ring-a-ding-ding.
Erica: What about friendship?
Jack: Nope. Either marry or me or I walk out this door.
Erica: It's your house.
Jack: Would you let me have a dramatic moment here? Now, get the special effects ready because I'm leaving.
::::::thunder::::::rain::::::lightning::::::dog howls:::::: banshee screams:::::: volcano erupts::::::
Jack: OK, let's not get carried away. I'm leaving you Erica.
Erica: Jack, you can't go. If you leave me where will I go, what will I do?
Jack: Frankly Erica, I don't give a damn.
Erica: :::sob sob:::: I can't believe it. This is the worst moment of my life.:::sob sob::::: These shoes are absolutely ruined! ::::sob sob::::::

***** (clip a) [Myrtle has a brief pang of fear she's at Lesbian night at SOS]

[amc030417ab.wmv starts]
[SOS]
[The camera follows two girls holding hands as they look happily at each other and head to the dance floor. Another pair of girls is already dancing. They hold hands as they leave and go over to a table in the background behind Lena and Binks, sitting in nearly identical positions -- very close together; we get occasional glimpses of them leaning toward one another as they converse. Despite Lena's asking Binks to go hear a *blues* band (in the 4/7/03 episode) the music is actually canned Big Band -- the classic recording of "In the Mood". Lena and Binks sit more or less across their small round table from Myrtle. Myrtle has a good-sized martini in front of her; it's nearly full but her expansiveness and Herlie's delivery suggest that Myrtle's been knocking them back for a while. Lena has something blue in a tall glass, also nearly full. Binks, as we find out later, is drinking cranberry juice and soda. Lena and Binks look as though they are genuinely having a good time, though Lena's attitude throughout the scene is more restrained than Binks' -- not surprising given the number of anvils she has to pretend not to react to]
Myrtle: You know, Lenny Wlasuk was a sleazy -- a really sleazy kind of fellow, even by carny standards. [amc030417a-inc starts] I mean, he was all charm and snake oil, [here Binks adopts Lena's posture exactly: leaning on elbows, right forearm on the table across her body, left hand on right shoulder. It's kind of cute] what we used to call a flim-flam artist.
Lena: "Flim-flam"?
Myrtle: Well, that's someone who pretends to be one kind of person but is actually another.
Lena: Well, I must say, leading a double life must be terribly exhausting.
Myrtle: No, no, not really. I mean, flim-flam artists travel very light. No heart, no conscience.
Bianca: Oh, I don't know about that. I mean, Lenny a. k. a. Langley Wallingford did make good when he married Phoebe, right?
Myrtle: Well, he had to get off that crooked path, darling. I mean, there's always someone at the end of it, someone you've done dirty to, who's waiting just to get their own back.
Lena: What a colorful life you've led, Mrs. Fargate.
Myrtle: Oh, no, it's Myrtle. Myrtle, Queen of the Midway. Sees all, knows all. I must say, you girls were sweet to let me join your date tonight.
Bianca: Oh, well Myrtle, [looks over to the dance floor, then back at Myrtle] you promised us that we'd get to see some of your famous dance moves.
Myrtle: Well, um... [looks around]
Lena: Maybe we should all find partners.
Myrtle: Well, we seem to be short of available men. Listen, is this Ladies' Night? [Lena and Binks laugh]
Bianca: No. Myrtle, it's just the normal after-work crowd.
Lena: Though the men are in the minority.
Bianca: Hey, I think I know a way we can even things up here. [reaches for her purse and pulls out her cell phone]

***** (clip b) [Lena finds out Boyd is with Kendall]

[amc030417b starts & amc030417ab continues)]
[Myrtle's]
Boyd: What's the deal, Kendall? Are you telling me that you and Cambias are over?
[Boyd's phone rings]
Kendall: Why don't you get that. I'll, ah, I'll take care of the wine.
[picks up a bottle and a couple of glasses]
Boyd: [unclips his phone] Hello?
[SOS]
Bianca: Boyd! Drop whatever you are doing, put on your zoot suit and haul it down to SOS.
Boyd: What?
Bianca: Come on, the music is hot and Myrtle is looking for a boogie woogie bugle boy.
[Myrtle's]
Boyd: I can't, all right? Kendall's here. I gotta go.
[disconnects]
[SOS]
Bianca: [disconnects and puts away her phone] Well, it seems that Boyd has other plans for this evening.
Lena: [amused] Playing with his chemistry set?
Bianca: No, playing with fire. Kendall's over there.
Lena: Ah. Maybe Boyd's going to get lucky.
Myrtle: On my sitting room sofa?
[Lena and Binks laugh]

***** (clip c) [Michael annoys Lena big time]

[amc030417c starts]
[Camera pans across Michael sitting at the bar eating something. The girls from the back table can be seen dancing again]
Myrtle: You know, once I was engaged to a fire swallower. [Lena and Binks laugh. Michael is visible over Myrtle's shoulder] But my love turned out to be heartburn! [more laughter. Lena notices Michael for the first time]
Lena: Ladies, next round is on me. Bianca, same thing?
[Not too subtle: Binks' glass is still a third full, Myrtle's only about halfway down. Lena's own glass looks untouched]
Bianca: Cranberry and soda.
Lena: Coming up.
Myrtle: Lena's a really lovely girl. [Lena goes up to the bar] But, honey, how much do you really know about her?
[Binks doesn't answer right away, only smiling and glancing over at Lena]
Lena: [to bartender] Another round, please. [sidles over to where Michael is sitting. Bad blocking: from previous camera angles, we know that this puts her directly in Binks' line of sight. So much for clandestine meetings] Good news. [leans on bar and pretends to look elsewhere. Michael munches chips and swirls his glass, which presumably contains his usual single malt Scotch desecrated with ice cubes. The girls from the beginning of the previous scene can be seen dancing behind Lena] Your plan seems to be working. Larraby's with Kendall.
Michael: Well, let's hope he talks in his sleep.
Lena: [stands, still not looking directly at Michael] If she manages to get him in bed.
Michael: Well, why wouldn't she? Kendall's very seductive.
Lena: She also happens to be madly in love with you.
Michael: Which is precisely why she'll go all the way with the, ah, boy chemist.
Lena: She's not like us, Michael.
Michael: Well, I'm not so sure about that. She's had her fair share of dirty deeds in the past. She'll come through for me.
Lena: [pointedly] For us.
Michael: Having fun tonight?
Lena: [offhand] Well, like Kendall, I have a job to do.
Michael: Do it very well. [smugly] Or just close your eyes and think about me.
Bartender: [sets down a tray] Here you go.
Lena: And you, my dear Michael, can go to hell.
[picks up tray and stalks off. Scene ends on the second pair of dancing girls]

***** (clip d) [Lena and Bianca actually get some time alone to talk]

[amc030417d.avi starts]
Bianca: Well, Myrtle, Lena and I are still in the getting-to-know-you phase of our relationship, [fiddles with the lime wedge on the rim of her glass] but I think that she's just... terrific.
Myrtle: Yes, I can see that.
[Binks squeezes the lime and drops it into her drink. Lena stands off to Binks' right, talking with someone offscreen]
Bianca: What, you think that I'm rushing things?
Myrtle: Well, maybe a little. [Binks wipes her fingers fastidiously on a bar napkin. Give it up, Binks, those things are about as absorbent as newsprint] You know, you young people, giving your hearts away so easily --
Bianca: Myrtle, that's not me any more. I mean, I'm far less open and trusting than I used to be.
Myrtle: Well, darling, I don't mean you should build a fortress around your heart, but just be careful who you let in.
[Binks nods thoughtfully]
Lena: [approaches with a Random Extra in tow; he looks like a younger, taller, more svelte, not dead Buddy Hackett] Myrtle, this charming gentleman was just admiring you from across the room and he asked for an introduction.
Alvin: My name's Alvin Armbruster.
[gives her a little bow]
Myrtle: Well, I'm Myrtle Fargate. [shakes Alvin's hand] Very nice to meet you, Alvin.
Alvin: [rushes up to Myrtle, still holding onto her hand] I wonder if you would like to, uh, burn it up on the dance floor?
Myrtle: Oh! [giggles flirtatiously] Well... yes, I think I'd be delighted. [beaming Alvin helps her up and they go off to dance. Lena moves to sit in Myrtle's chair, facing Binks] You girls behave yourselves.
Bianca: Of course.
Lena: [slightly awkward at first, but throughout the rest of the conversation progressively softer and more open] Alone at last.
Bianca: Ah, yes. When you invited me out tonight I guess you didn't expect a chaperone.
Lena: Myrtle's fabulous. [waves it off, glancing over her shoulder at Dancing!Myrtle] I love the stories about her carny days.
Bianca: [ruefully but fondly] Yes, well, Myrtle loves to talk. She's sort of like a surrogate grandma/Auntie Mame to me.
Lena: Like my Auntie Rula.
Bianca: [imitates Lena's pronunciation -- consciously or not?] Auntie Rula?
Lena: Ah, she was a neighbor from back home, in Poland. [plays with the bottom of Myrtle's glass] I used to go there after school. [Binks props her chin on her left hand, at first with her fingers touching her lips -- body language for "Kiss me"] Her kitchen used to smell of hot coffee and ginger. She used to tell me stories about Gypsies and caravans. Amazing adventures, all of which featured a young girl called Lena.
Bianca: Was she a friend of your mother's?
Lena: My mother? Please. Übermodels have no time for little girls and silly old women.
Bianca: So your mother was a model as well?
Lena: Like yours. And like yours, she had trouble accepting that I was [back-and-forth gesture with her hands]... different.
Bianca: Really. I'm surprised. I just thought that Europeans had such a live and let live attitude about everything.
Lena: Not when it comes to their daughters.
Bianca: Wow. Well, maybe someday.
Lena: Sadly, my mother died before... we reached an understanding.
Bianca: I'm sorry. I know how that feels.
Lena: You do?
Bianca: My father. He, um, he also passed away before I got the chance to really tell him that I was gay.
Lena: But he knew?
Bianca: Yeah, um, I like to think he did, um, that he was just waiting for me to feel comfortable enough to go to him. But I never got the chance.
Lena: Finding someone who accepts you for who you are... it's everything.
Bianca: You think?
Lena: I know.
Bianca: Well, I know that my dad would have really liked you, Lena.
Lena: [a little too brightly] Why do you say that?
Bianca: Because you're... you're so honest.
Lena: You don't know that.
[looks around, flustered, then picks up her glass and takes a sip to cover]
Bianca: Well, I trust my instincts.
Lena: [sets down glass, once again composed] And your instincts have never led you astray?
Bianca: Actually, yes, they have. [right hand goes to her face, then tucks her hair behind her ear; keeps the hand on her shoulder near her neck] But, um, I know that I have to keep taking chances.
Lena: You're very brave.
Bianca: My Uncle Jack says that you [rubs her shoulder] need to stand on the edge of where you are and look at where you want to be and [hand goes to her throat] keep both eyes wide open and just jump.
Lena: You're not afraid?
Bianca: [plays with her necklace] Scared out of my skull.
[voice breaks; she laughs nervously. Lena gets all schmoopy-eyed and slides her left hand across the table to place it on top of Binks' left hand; Binks, unsure but not making any effort to pull away, looks at Lena, then down at their hands]

***** (clip e) [Bianca offers to take Myrtle home]

[amc030417e starts]
Myrtle: Oh, oh! [walks slowly back to the table, touching her hand briefly to her forehead. Alvin seems to have disappeared. The second girl couple is still dancing] Girls, clear the decks. [sits down next to Binks] I have not danced so much since VE Day.
Bianca: [puts hand on Myrtle's back. Myrtle again holds her hand to her head] Are you okay, Myrtle?
[The first girl couple is now seated at the same table the second couple were at before. I don't know why I'm so fixated on the queer girls, except that it amuses me]
Myrtle: I think so, I think so. Well, I have a tiny little headache, nothing. Listen, girls, I think I'm going to take a cab home and leave you two to enjoy yourselves.
Bianca: Oh, no, there's no way that you're taking a cab home, Myrtle. We'll drive you.
Myrtle: No, no, I'm not going to interfere with your evening. You just enjoy your date, and I'm off.
Lena: Myrtle, maybe if you rest a few minutes your headache will go away. You don't want to miss the jitterbug contest!
Myrtle: I jittered my bug long ago. No, no, I am for home.
Bianca: Oh, well, then it's settled. [gets up and picks up her jacket and purse from the back of her chair] And, we will drive you there and I don't want any backtalk.
Myrtle: Oh, stubborn like your mother.
Bianca: You bet I am. [helps Myrtle up] Come on. [Myrtle waves to someone -- perhaps Alvin -- and leaves with Binks; Lena's expression kind of says "whatever" she but gathers her things and follows them out]

***** (clip f) [Lena and Bianca arrive to see Kendall leaving the boardinghouse]

[Myrtle's]
Boyd: You know what the hell of it is, Kendall? Despite everything you've done, I would have loved you. I want you to go. Just go!
[amc030417f-inc starts]
Bianca: [opens door; she's got her jacket over her head. Lena follows; she's wearing her shawl over her shoulders but her hair appears to be perfectly dry. Ah, the effects on this show. They're laughing] It's raining cats and dogs out there and Myrtle is sick -- [catches sight of Boyd and Kendall in an obviously tense moment] Oh, sorry. Um, I just need an umbrella for Myrtle.
[Bianca reaches for an umbrella in the stand by the door. Kendall picks up something hideously pink and leaves without saying a word; Binks stares out after her]
Boyd: Look, I'll go. [taking the umbrella from Binks] I'll take care of Myrtle and I'll help her in.
[closes door as he goes out. Lena and Binks exchange uncomfortable glances, then move toward the living room]
Lena: [gesturing outside] I think Myrtle will be okay. I should go.
[starts to put her wrap back on]
Bianca: Oh, no, um... please stay.
[Lena hesitates, then smiles]

[amc030417g starts]
Lena: [still has on her shawl, but now it's down by her elbows] It seems our evening ended before it began. Myrtle's not well and Boyd's upset with Kendall over something. Maybe we should try this again sometime -- soon.
Bianca: All right. I'd like that.
Lena: [quietly] I like you, Bianca. [ducks her head] More than you know.
Bianca: [a little puzzled but smiling] I like you too. Lena.
[Lena leans forward and hugs Binks]
Boyd: Sleep tight, Myrtle, okay? And let me know if you need anything.
[Lena and Binks pull apart at the sound of Boyd's voice offscreen and look at one another awkwardly]
Lena: [picks up her purse] Sweet dreams.
Bianca: Thank you.
[Lena gives Binks one more look over her shoulder as she leaves. Boyd comes down the stairs. Binks shifts emotional gears]
Bianca: So, how is Myrtle?
Boyd: Oh, I sent her up to bed with some aspirin and chamomile tea. She'll be fine.
Bianca: I have a feeling that aspirin and tea are not going to be enough to fix what went on between you and Kendall.
Boyd: Yeah, only it's not Kendall. It's Michael Cambias. Can you believe he sent her here trying to steal my formula?
Bianca: Did it work?
Boyd: No, of course not. But tonight he proved that he'll do anything to get it.

***** (clip h) [Michael orders Lena to seduce Bianca]

[amc030417h starts]
[Phone rings]
[split screen showing Michael on the left, Lena on the right. Michael is at a gym, wearing a light gray sleeveless shirt with black trim around the neck and armholes. It's not clear from the anonymous beige background where Lena is; she sits on a chair as she speaks with Michael over the phone]
Michael: What?
Lena: It's me. I'm afraid Kendall failed to do what you asked.
Michael: D****t, Lena, why, what happened now?
Lena: I don't know but she stormed out of the boarding house in tears and Boyd seems to be very angry.
Michael: Oh, who cares what he feels? I just need that formula. Look, all right, it's time to move on to Bianca now.
Lena: [instantly on guard] What?
Michael: Boyd's other best friend is Bianca Montgomery.
Lena: So?
Michael: So, the rest is up to you.
Lena: Michael --
Michael: Look, look, look, don't get soft on me now, Lena. Bianca's gotta find a way to lure the formula from Boyd, and you've got to find a way to tease the formula from Bianca.
Lena: How exactly do you propose I do that.
Michael: You take her. Look, give her what she wants, as long as I get what I want.
[hangs up. Lena looks at her phone, then disconnects; her expression says, "I'm screwed"]

***** (clip a) [Myrtle has a brief pang of fear she's at Lesbian night at SOS]

[amc030417ab.wmv starts]
Myrtle: You know, Lenny Wlasuk was a sleazy -- a really sleazy kind of fellow, even by carny standards.I mean, [amc030417a-inc starts] he was all charm and snake oil, what we used to call a flim-flam artist.
Bianca: Oh, well Myrtle, you promised us that we'd get to see some of your famous dance moves.
Myrtle: Well, um...
Lena: Maybe we should all find partners.
Myrtle: Well, we seem to be short of available men. Listen, is this Ladies' Night?
Bianca: No. Myrtle, it's just the normal after-work crowd.
Lena: Though the men are in the minority.
Bianca: Hey, I think I know a way we can even things up here.

***** (clip b) [Lena finds out Boyd is with Kendall]

[amc030417b starts & amc030417ab continues)]
Boyd: What's the deal, Kendall? Are you telling me that you and Cambias are over?
[Boyd's phone rings]
Kendall: Why don't you get that. I'll, ah, I'll take care of the wine.
Boyd: Hello?
[SOS]
Bianca: Well, it seems that Boyd has other plans for this evening.
Lena: Playing with his chemistry set?
Bianca: No, playing with fire. Kendall's over there.
Lena: Ah. Maybe Boyd's going to get lucky.
Myrtle: On my sitting room sofa?
[Lena and Binks laugh]

***** (clip c) [Michael annoys Lena big time]

[amc030417c starts]
Myrtle: You know, once I was engaged to a fire swallower. But my love turned out to be heartburn!
Lena: Ladies, next round is on me. Bianca, same thing?
Bianca: Cranberry and soda.
Lena: Coming up.
Myrtle: Lena's a really lovely girl. But, honey, how much do you really know about her?
Lena: Another round, please. Good news. Your plan seems to be working. Larraby's with Kendall.
Michael: Well, let's hope he talks in his sleep.
Lena: If she manages to get him in bed.
Lena: For us.
Michael: Having fun tonight?
Lena: Well, like Kendall, I have a job to do.
Michael: Do it very well. Or just close your eyes and think about me.
Bartender: Here you go.
Lena: And you, my dear Michael, can go to hell.

***** (clip d) [Lena and Bianca actually get some time alone to talk]

[amc030417d.avi starts]
Bianca: Well, Myrtle, Lena and I are still in the getting-to-know-you phase of our relationship, but I think that she's just... terrific.
Myrtle: Yes, I can see that.
Bianca: What, you think that I'm rushing things?
Myrtle: Well, maybe a little. You know, you young people, giving your hearts away so easily --
Bianca: Myrtle, that's not me any more. I mean, I'm far less open and trusting than I used to be.
Myrtle: Well, darling, I don't mean you should build a fortress around your heart, but just be careful who you let in.
Lena: Myrtle, this charming gentleman was just admiring you from across the room and he asked for an introduction.
Alvin: My name's Alvin Armbruster.
Myrtle: Well, I'm Myrtle Fargate. Very nice to meet you, Alvin.
Alvin: I wonder if you would like to, uh, burn it up on the dance floor?
Myrtle: Oh! Well... yes, I think I'd be delighted. You girls behave yourselves.
Bianca: Of course.
Lena: Alone at last.
Bianca: Ah, yes. When you invited me out tonight I guess you didn't expect a chaperone.
Lena: Myrtle's fabulous. I love the stories about her carny days.
Bianca: Yes, well, Myrtle loves to talk. She's sort of like a surrogate grandma/Auntie Mame to me.
Lena: Like my Auntie Rula.
Bianca: Auntie Rula?
Lena: Ah, she was a neighbor from back home, in Poland. I used to go there after school. Her kitchen used to smell of hot coffee and ginger.
And like yours, she had trouble accepting that I was ...
Lena: Why do you say that?
Bianca: Because you're... you're so honest.
Lena: You don't know that.
Bianca: Well, I trust my instincts.
Lena: And your instincts have never led you astray?
Bianca: Actually, yes, they have. But, um, I know that I have to keep taking chances.
Lena: You're very brave.
Bianca: My Uncle Jack says that you need to stand on the edge of where you are and look at where you want to be and keep both eyes wide open and just jump.
Lena: You're not afraid?
Bianca: Scared out of my skull.

***** (clip e) [Bianca offers to take Myrtle home]

[amc030417e starts]
Myrtle: Oh, oh! Girls, clear the decks. I have not danced so much since VE Day.
Bianca: Are you okay, Myrtle?
And, we will drive you there and I don't want any backtalk.
Myrtle: Oh, stubborn like your mother.
Bianca: You bet I am. Come on.

The above described clips can also be found on my shared folder on AIM (http://www.aim.com to download). My user name on AIM is kymtaborn. E-mail me with your AIM user name (ktaborn@lightspeed.net) and I will give you access to the shared folder. When you have access, you can right click my user name on your buddy list and then click on get file. That should get you into the shared folder. If you have problems, then tweak your firewall. The downloads are slow because it has to go through the AIM filter AND often there are a lot of people downloading along with you. I apologize for the slow speed but this is the only way that I can distribute the clips at this time.

I am eliciting volunteers to host the clips throughout the web. If you have 5-25megs of space you can lend to this project, please let me know!
