SYNOPSIS

Lena's mother visits Bianca; Lena packs up her stuff at Enchantment and Erica slaps her.

RE-CAPS:

From The Official Site at ABC.com:
http://abc.go.com/daytime/allmychildren/episodes/2003-04/20030530.html

Boyd watches as Lena packs up her belongings from her office. Boyd tells Lena he thinks Bianca should give her another chance. Paulina, Lena's mother, goes to see Bianca and fills her in on Lena's complicated and troubled childhood caused by Paulina's actions. Paulina insists to Bianca that Lena truly does love her and offers Lena's decision to leave Pine Valley as proof. Erica encounters Lena at Enchantment and unleashes her rage. Lena wonders if Erica is angry with her because she tried to steal the formula or because she fell in love with Bianca. Bianca arrives to hear their exchange and wonders how Erica will respond.

From About All My Children
http://allmychildren.about.com/cs/recaps/a/bl20030530r.htm

Bianca answers the knock at her door, and Paulina Kundera introduces herself as Lena’s mother. Bianca agrees that she recognizes her from the press conference. When Mrs. Kundera says she must speak to her about Lena, Bianca gasps, “Did something happen to her?” The woman smiles as she says, “Yes, she fell in love.” Bianca’s afraid she’s wasted her time, because she and Lena are over. Mrs. Kundera asks to come in for a moment, and says she wants to apologize. Bianca points out that she hardly knows her, but Mrs. Kundera says her daughter lied to Bianca because she taught her that lies are the only way to survive, and she’s not proud of it. Bianca agrees that Lena said her mother was a fashion model, but learns that was another lie—she was a seamstress. Binks adds that Lena also told her that she disapproved of her being gay—was that a lie as well? Paulina agrees that was true—to be different in their culture makes you vulnerable. She wants her to understand why her daughter lied to her, but Bianca knows it was to steal from her mother’s company. Paulina insists it was to survive that man, and Bianca skeptically asks if she believes Michael Cambias is responsible for Lena’s lies? Paulina blames only herself, and Bianca asks, “Like mother, like daughter?” Mrs. Kundera explains that when Lena was a child, she and Lena’s father were dissidents; her husband was imprisoned when they were exposed, and she was promised leniency if she became an informant. She betrayed her friends and family to save her husband, but the government killed him anyway before the regime fell. Bianca is very sorry, but this has nothing to do with what happened between herself and Lena. Paulina agrees what Lena did was wrong, but it was all she knew until now. Bianca asks if she wants her to forgive Lena? Pauline replies, “I want you to love her!” Bianca says that’s impossible; Mrs. Kundera thinks it’s difficult, but not impossible. She says Lena is lost; she has so much good in her, and if she could only see past her mistakes… She wants her daughter to be happy, “Loving you makes her happy.” Bianca asks how she knows Lena loves her? Paulina says she is willing to do as she asks, and leave her alone forever; they have relatives in Chicago, and they leave tomorrow—she wants Bianca to stop her! Bianca says she’s done that already. The last time Lena was leaving forever, she did follow her and made a fool of herself, begging her to stay! Paulina protests that Lena has given up hope of a second chance, unless… Bianca says only that she hopes Mrs. Kundera will be very happy in Chicago. Paulina understands, but thanks her for showing her daughter that love is possible, even for a short time.

Lena packs her things from her office, and smiles when she comes across two strips of photo booth pictures she and Bianca took together, both smiling and happy. When Boyd comes in, Lena thanks him for coming, but Larraby tells her Human Resources called; he’s just here to supervise her packing and escort her from the premises. He wonders why she requested him? Lena says it seemed appropriate—she came here to steal his formula, and she failed. She also wants to apologize, and is truly sorry. Boyd knows she is, and looks at the pictures as he tells her, for the record, Bianca doesn’t hate her. Lena agrees Bianca is incapable of hate, and Boyd angrily says Lena really put her through the test! Lena concurs, “That’s why she deserves a lot better than me.” Boyd asks if she’s playing the sympathy card? Lena means it; Bianca deserves to be with someone who won’t take advantage of her love. Boyd says, although she did some pretty hateful things, he’s a sucker for love, and thinks she’s about to find it. Bianca asked for his advice about her, and he told her to give Lena another chance because she loves her. Lena notes Bianca’s a smart girl, “She didn’t take your advice, and wants me to leave her alone.” She concludes that every time Bianca’s given her a chance, she let her down. Boyd never would have picked her for a coward! Lena insists she will honor her wishes and go. Boyd argues that they love each other; why not trust in that and stay? Lena thinks it’s too late, but Boyd tells her it’s never too late to love someone. “What if I don’t know how?” Lena asks. He replies that love is something you feel, not something you learn. Lena says she’s never allowed herself to feel anything until now, and look at the mess she’s made! Boyd thinks the great thing about love is if it’s strong enough, it can heal anything! Lena thinks the best way for Bianca to heal right now is just to have her out of her life. She asks if she could have a minute? Larraby says he’s not supposed to let her out of his sight, but okay. When he goes out into the hallway, he runs into Erica coming out of her office. Ms. Kane tells him her phone is being repaired, and she can’t concentrate in there, so she’ll use Lena’s office, “I hope they fumigated!” She opens the door before Boyd can stop her, and asks Lena why she’s still here? Boyd says Lena’s finishing packing, and Erica asks if he’s standing guard outside the door? She knows her company’s policy, and she is supposed to be escorted out of here by someone from Human Resources or Security, not him! She asks Lena if she interrupted a private going away party, one last shot at seducing Boyd? Larraby protests that she wasn’t trying to seduce him; she’s saying goodbye. Erica asks if he’ll open his eyes? A woman like Lena—she’s playing him again! Lena says she’s ready to go, and promises she’ll never have to see her again. Erica asks if she thinks she can just walk away from all the damage she’s caused to her, her company and her daughter? She’s not going anywhere until she tells her exactly what she thinks of her! Lena already knows what she thinks of her, but Erica says there is so much more! Boyd notes that Lena’s already apologized; do they really have to do this? Outraged, Erica asks how he can defend her after all he knows about this woman—does she still get to him? Boyd says no, and he can have her out of here and out of her life in 5 minutes. Erica wants those 5 minutes, and asks him to leave them. He does, and Erica asks Lena how she does it? She charms her way into people’s lives and then she guts them, and the smile never leaves her face! She has no shame, no conscience and no soul; to be in league with Michael Cambias, she is just as evil as he is! Lena admits she’s done many things she’s not proud of, and Erica suggests, “Like sleep with a rapist?” Lena protests that she doesn’t, not anymore! Erica thinks she needed to have her own victim, so she preyed on Bianca. She trusted her with her heart, and she was happy to use every single part of it! When Lena insists she loves Bianca, Erica slaps her across the face! “How dare you!” she exclaims, “As if you know what love is!” Lena insists she does, because Bianca showed her. Erica retorts that she disgusts her, “The thought of you anywhere near my daughter Bianca just makes my skin crawl!” Lena asks, “Because I’m a liar, or because I’m gay?” Bianca comes to the door and agrees, “I’d like to know the answer to that, too, Mom.”

Lena is packing her crap up at Enchantment. She gets a schmoopy look on her face when she picks up some photo booth pictures of herself and Bianca. Boyd shows up, he was sent by Human Resources to guard-dog her. He wonders why she requested him. She wanted to apologize to him for her part in *sshole’s dastardly plan. He can tell she’s sorry. That Boyd. Such a sucker for the sincere apology, isn’t he?

Bianca is at home where she answers a knock on the door. It’s Mom of Lena, Paulina to her friends...

Bianca really isn’t interested in talking to Paulina. But Hot Polish Foxmom manages to talk her way in. Paulina wants to apologize since all of Lena’s actions were to protect her. She reveals that Lena’s story about her being a fashion model was also bogus, she was really a seamstress. Bianca wants to know if what Lena said about her mom’s disapproval about her lifestyle was true. Paulina says it was true. She declares it was because being different in their culture made one vulnerable.

We get the whole backstory now. When Lena was a child, Paulina and Dad of Lena were dissidents and imprisoned by the government. Paulina was made to spy for them in exchange for the promise that Dad of Lena would not be harmed. She betrayed all her friends, family and ideals just to keep him safe, which ended up being for naught because they ended up killing him anyway. Bianca is sympathetic but doesn’t see how any of this has to do with her and Lena. Paulina says that Lena’s actions were because being sneaky and underhanded was all she knew. What Paulina wants is for Bianca to love her daughter.

Boyd reveals to Lena that he’d told Bianca to give her another chance. He becomes quite the advocate for Lena staying in town and wearing down Bianca’s defenses. Lena keeps shaking her head no at the idea...

Boyd keeps trying to convince Lena to continue her pursuit of Bianca. She asks if he could please give the pep talk a rest. He sighs and agrees to just wait in the hallway for her when she’s done packing.

Erica’s headed for Lena’s office to use the phone since hers is busted. Boyd tries to tell her it’s occupado but she opens the door before he can do so. Smoke starts fuming out of Erica’s ears at the sight of Lena...

Paulina continues to do her Boyd impression as she requests that Bianca should give Lena another chance. Bianca isn’t interested.

Erica blows a gasket that Lena is hanging around. Boyd explains that Lena’s just packing her stuff up. Erica thinks Lena is trying to con her chemist again. They both insist otherwise but Erica is too wound up...

Erica kicks Boyd out so she can ream Lena out one-on-one. She declares that Lena is a soulless liar who preyed on Bianca. Lena tries to say that she loves Bianca but is cut off when Erica smacks her into the middle of next week...

Erica massages her hand while Lena rubs her jaw. She declares how much Lena disgusts her and makes her skin crawl. Lena calls Erica to the carpet as she asks if it’s because she’s a liar or because she’s gay. Erica stammers until Bianca cuts her off, wanting to know the answer to that question as well...

On the next All My Children
Erica has found out about the Adam/*sshole alliance and is not happy.
Lena is begging Bianca for another chance.
David and Anna cuddle their dead spawn as David vows vengeance.

TODAY ON AMC :

  • Boyd plays Dolly (Gallagher Levi) for Lena.
  • Erica stares at bubbles.
  • Opal loses her powers.
  • Paulina plays Dolly (Gallagher Levi) for Bianca.
  • Bianca gets a nickname.
  • Boyd gets pretty.
  • Erica opens a can. Of whop-ass.

Before The Break - Erica sits alone at a bar; Clairvoyant Opal, wearing a shirt I once saw wrapped around a box of chocolates, sits with her and flips when she sees the waiter place a flute of champagne in front of Erica. This is where my powers of deduction come in handy: Erica has had some sort of problem with addiction in the past, hasn't she? Yeah, nothing gets past me.

Lena is in her office, packing; she gets all googly-eyed when she sees tiny pictures of herself with Bianca, the kind you get at those boots in Metro stations. Bianca is showing cleavage in those shots, too. Boyd arrives to supervise the packing.

I know, you're wondering why a scientist was called to do security's job: it's best not to dwell on these things while watching a soap.

Lena: "I wanted to apologize: I ruined so much. I'm truly sorry Boyd."

Whatsywhatwhat? You ruined so much…what? Well, ok, leave that dangling then.

Boyd: "I know you are, Lena. For the record, Bianca doesn't hate you."
Lena: "I know she doesn't: she's not capable of hate."

She is capable of kicking your a** though.

Boyd: "You sure as h*** put her to the test."
Lena: "That's why she deserves a lot better than me."

Oh great, three minutes into things and already there are two pity parties.

Myrtle’s Boarding House - Bianca is moping around and I am forced to look at more of this house and its horrible wallpaper and chairs and knick-knacks and - I'm sorry, my eyes have just completely rolled back.

Paulina: "Bianca? I am Paulina Kundera, Lena's mother."

I’m digging the soft accent Paulina, but you're supposed to be a Pole, not Austrian.

Bianca: "Yes, I recognize you from the press conference."
Paulina: "I hope you will forgive my rudeness, but I must speak with you about Lena."
Bianca: "Did something happen to her?"

What, you care now? About that head-out-of-your-a** operation: is that in the budget today?

Paulina: "Yes, she fell in love."

Aww. Sniff.

PVI Bar - Opal seems out of it: Opal, aren't you clairvoyant? I gave you that nickname for a reason; don't make me have to think of something else now: I already had to change Michael's five times.

Erica: "So, when management called me to tell me they had it, I told them to keep it: I planned to serve it at Bianca's wedding."

Hey, Binks can still get married and you'd better serve that crap when she does until everyone is good and drunk!

Opal says Erica could serve the bubbly at her own wedding: apparently, Opal is neither clairvoyant nor a reader: she must have skipped yesterday's script. She is looking at the flute as if a snake were belly dancing in it though - and I appreciate it.

At Kendall's – Kendall does a bit of self-exploration - no, not that kind - and realizes she always turns to sex to feel good and that she needs to stop because it all comes with a string attached. Well, it comes with something.

Kendall: "There's nothing stopping us right now from ripping each other's clothes off, but that wouldn't be fair."

Well, I'm thinking Aidan's good taste would put a stop to things.

Myrtle's Boarding House - Bianca has to learn good manners because Paulina is still standing at the door.

Paulina: "I want to apologize"
Bianca: "You hardly know me."
Paulina: "My daughter lied to you because of me, because I told her that lies are the only way to survive."

Yeah, I blame you, too, Paulina and I don't like you. Umpf.

Paulina: "She told you that I was a fashion model?"
Bianca: "Let me guess: that was a lie."
Paulina: "Yes, I was a seamstress."
Bianca: "She also told me that you disapproved of her being gay: was that a lie as well?"
Paulina: "No, that was true."

That is an awfully interesting question to ask, don't you think? It's almost as if she wants to get on Paulina's case. Or maybe she's just being a brat: I can't tell.

Paulina: "To be different in our culture, it makes you vulnerable."
Bianca: "Well Lena is no longer vulnerable."

Bianca, stop moving around: you'll give Paulina whiplash and she hasn't been in town long enough to know she's supposed to be talking to your b***.

Bianca: "Why are you telling me this?"
Paulina: "Because I want you to understand why my daughter lied to you."

I want you to stop saying "want" as if you were saying "voodoo," but I'm not going to get that, am I?

Bianca: "I know why she lied to me: she did it so that she could steal from my mother's company."

Whatever you need to believe, Blandy.

Paulina: "No: so she could survive that man."
Bianca: "So you blame Michael Cambias for Lena's lies."
Paulina: "I blame only myself."

As any good, self-respecting mother would 'cause, we all know it, it's always the mother's fault. Plus, I don't like you. But I do like that you're trying to make amends and that you're making Bianca blink and sit and allow you to talk to her face.

Paulina: "When Lena was a child, her father and I were dissidents. When we were exposed, the government imprisoned my husband: they promised leniency if I would become an informant."
Bianca: "And you did."

No Blandy, she's just telling you 'cause she likes to hear herself talk and she's trying all kinds of different accents. She needs the practice.

Paulina: "Yes. I betrayed my friends, my family, anyone to save my husband."
Bianca: "And, was he grateful?"

Bianca is full of interesting questions today, though I don't think she asked that because she knows that any dissident would not at all be grateful under these circumstances. We're not talking about those spineless Hollywood rats here, this is not a First Amendment thing, not "are you now or have you ever been a Communist." A dissident would rather be dismembered than give up a single name and would never want anyone to rat out people in order to be saved. Paulina, I still don't like you.

Paulina: "I'm not making excuses. What Lena did was wrong, but it was all she knew. Until now."
Bianca: "And you want me to forgive her?"
Paulina: "I want you to love her."

D*** it, I’m trying to not like this collaborator, ok? Ugh. Fine, she's a good-intentioned mother, but that is as far as I'll go!

Lena's Office - Lena is still packing while Boyd watches.

Lena: "No, I mean it: Bianca deserves to be with someone who won't take advantage of her love."
Boyd: "You mean, like you did."

Hello? Pine Valley to Boyd! That is what Lena has been saying: are you paying any attention?

Boyd: "You know, Bianca asked for my advice about you."
Lena: "Oh, let me guess: you told her to get as far away from me as possible."
Boyd: "I said she should give you another chance."

You are a sucker for love, GelBoy. Yeah, me too. And since Myrtle is M.I.A., you're the only one, aside from CollaboratorMommy, who is trying to make these two dolts see that not everything is black and white.

Lena: "Yeah. She's a smart girl, so she didn't take your advice: she wants me to leave her alone."

Ahem. Woman. She is a smart woman.

Lena: "Look, every time Bianca has given me a chance, I've let her down. Even if she were brave enough to offer me another one, I don't think I'm in any position to take it."
Boyd: "So that's it, you just walk away? You know, I never would have picked you for a coward."

Oohhh, this is why boys never leave you alone, not even after you've told them 50 times to get lost: 'cause they're not cowards! Boys, I forgive all of you en masse. It's a bench pardon, so take it now before I change my mind. Oh, and you, too, woman with a mullet. You take the pardon, too.

Boyd: "No, it's never too late to love someone."
Lena: "What if I don't know how?"

Oh for crying out loud: read a book, Lena!

PVI Bar - Erica continues to blame herself for Chris's death - but is he really dead? - and keeps on staring at the flute. Opal says she is strong enough to pass on the stuff.

Erica: "You know in the past, I could get through the pain, but not now, now I just want, I wanna, I want..."

What, you want to remember your lines?

Opal: "Slow down: there's got to be some middle ground between drowning in the bubbly and pressing the pedal to the metal!"

Hum, there is? Are you saying I'd work less if only I'd get sloshed once is a while? Hey, I finally did get some sleep last night: 2 hours and 15 minutes! See, the date for the recap is A-Ok today.

At Kendall's - Kendall and Aidan are scoring baskets with beer caps; Maria arrives and blah, blah wants Kendall to love Aidan which, if you were a normal human being, you'd take as her way of saying he's a great guy, give him a chance - but she's talking to Kendall, who thinks Maria is passing on her trash.

Lena's Office – Boyd’s still there trying to convince Lena to be more of a guy. I mean, act like a guy. I mean - oh, never mind.

Boyd: "Love is something you feel Lena, it's not something you learn."
Lena: "Well, I've never allowed myself to feel anything until now and look at the mess I made."

But Lena! Cookie Dough and Cookies and the Theory Of The Gay! (read the Buffy recap if you're lost on that.) So you didn't get it right the first time, so what? Try again, then you and Bianca can be Cookies together, ok?

Lena wants a moment alone, so Boyd steps out and runs into Erica, who is fleeing her office because the telephone guys are there.

At The Hospital - By now you all know I skip these bits or race my frogs when they come on, but - swinging doors lead to an OR? What the hell? Oh, sure, let's just allow anyone to step in and contaminate the sterile field: it's not as if they're trying to save lives or anything.

Myrtle's Boarding House - Paulina is still talking to Bianca's butt.

Paulina: "I know what I am asking."
Bianca: "It's impossible."
Paulina: "Difficult, not impossible."

Yeah, like it was difficult to be a collaborator, but not impossible, so you did it.

Bianca: "I'm very sorry that Lena had a hard childhood, but she's all grown up now."

Hee, I noticed that, too! We all have. Ahem.

Paulina: "I want my daughter to be happy: loving you makes her happy."
Bianca: "How do you know that she loves me?"

Well Bianca, Paulina gave her a test. It was a mix of multiple choice and essay questions, so Lena couldn't cheat her way out by choosing "C" when the questions got tricky. Then Paulina lit a few rings on fire and took a lesson from that great Indian movie, Fire. Lena jumped through all the rings and her clothes remained unscathed. Test passed.

Paulina: "Because she's willing to do what you asked: she's willing to leave you alone. Forever."
Bianca: "What are you talking about?

Bianca, you're so fickle. You want Lena to leave you alone, but you want to know what "leave you alone forever" means because you get a hunch it means she's actually going to do it. Women! I want those 50 boys and the woman with the mullet back.

Paulina: "We leave for Chicago tomorrow. We have relatives in Chicago. We leave tomorrow."

Where are you going? Boston? And when are you leaving again?

Bianca: "And you want me to stop her? […] I've done that once already. The last time that Lena was leaving forever I did follow her, I ran after her, I made a fool of myself, I begged her to stay. If she thinks that I'm gonna to do that again, then she's..."

She kissed you, you fool! You know you want to get more smooches, so go to the airport again.

Paulina: "Lena expects nothing from you. She has given up hope even of a second chance, unless..."
Bianca: "I hope that you'll be very, very happy in Chicago."

Yeah, you convince yourself that is what you want, Bianca. And swallow that lump: I swear, you and Lena are alike: you'd think you were married or something.

Paulina: "All right. I understand. Thank you for showing my daughter that love is possible, even for a short time."

Oh, ouch! Man, mothers certainly know what to say to pack a punch. Look out, Bianca is going to hit you now because you've bulldozed your way past that asinine wall of hers. Oh, she's holding the look: I wonder what's in her grocery list. I hope it's not Peeps, 'cause I hate those birds.

Lena's Office - Erica is about to wage war.

Erica: "What in the world are you still doing here?"
Lena: "Erica, I assure you, I'm leaving."

Yeah Erica, she's going to Boston sometime next week.

Erica: "With my chemist? Did I interrupt something here? A going-away party, one last shot at seducing Boyd?"
Boyd: "Erica please, she wasn't trying to seduce me: she's saying goodbye."
Erica: "Boyd, will you open your eyes?"

Close them Boyd! Erica's hair is flying!

Erica: "I see, and you think that that's enough, that you can just walk away from all the damage that you've caused to me, to my company, to my daughter!"

What about the damage you're causing me with all those superfluous prepositions?

Erica wants five minutes with Lena. Alone. But it's not a booty call, I swear.

Erica: "How do you do it?"

Wow, look at that double hair-flip! I wonder is Susan gets headaches.

Erica: "Like sleep with a rapist?"
Lena: "I don't! Not anymore."

Uhm, Lena, "not anymore?" Maybe you should shut up now.

Erica: "No of course, that's right, that's true. Because you needed something more, didn't you? You needed to have your own victim."

You know what? I think Erica's line are written on that index finger she keeps pointing.

Lena: "No Erica, I love Bianca."

Whoa. That is one huge slap. Erica must have put her entire body weight into that. Sure, it's not much, especially if you consider her body is hollow, but if you multiply the mass by the velocity...

Erica: "How dare you? As if you know what love is!"

Yeah, as if you knew grammar!

Lena: "I do. I do because Bianca showed me."

Come on Lena, I'll take you home to meet my mother.

Erica: "Stop it, just stop it: you disgust me. The thought of you anywhere near my daughter Bianca just makes my skin crawl."

So, Lena near Kendall is OK then? 'Cause you keep on specifying which daughter she cannot be near. I'm just sayin'.

Lena: "Because I'm a liar? Or because I'm gay?"

She’s gay, not bi? Revisionist history, thy name is AMC.

Erica: "Whuh... I...wh...that's not..."

Oh, so articulate, CruellaDeEnchantment: Lena's just called your bluff.

PARODY

Lena parts are indicated in red for those who only want a Lena fix

Aidan and Kendall come close to a kiss.
Kendall: I can't. I always do this.
Aidan: Whot?
Kendall: Try to get over one man by jumping right over to another. But now it's time to stop.
Aidan: Whoy dew Oi ave to be the won yew're with when yew decoid to dew this?
Kendall: You don't really want to be with me either. You're wishing I was Maureen.
Aidan: Oi think Oi'll go call the ospital. Me bighby cousin Leora is getting a picemiker. Yew'd think Oi'd be over there lending me support to Auntie Anna but Oi'm ere instead.
Maria: Hello Kendall. I've got my memory back. I'm Maria again.
Kendall: I can tell. You're wearing a turtle neck instead of a tank top.
Maria: I'm worried about Aidan.
Kendall: No you're not. You just feel guilty. This whole thing tarnishes your halo just a little bit. So now you're back to being St. Maria of the Push Up Bra living at Wildwind and poor Aidan is left with only his spotted dick and a memory.
Aidan: Don't be so mean to Mowreen. It wasn't er fault. We just didn't ave enuff fan support tew mike a go of it.
Kendall: Why are you being so calm?
Aidan: Oi'm not loik yew. The Devane's don't ave a issy fit gene.

Opal ran into Erica at the Valley Inn bar.
Opal: Is that a glass of champagne? Erica, you don't drink anymore.
Erica: I thought this would be a good time to start. I've had a rough week.
Opal: I know. I was madder than a woodpecker at a plastics convention I heard what that little maggot Michael Cambias tried to do to you.
Maggot: Excuse me. We object to the use of maggot and Michael Cambias in the same sentence. Bad for our image you know.
Erica: It's not just that. Chris is dead and Jack almost died because of me. I destroy every man who loves me.
Brooke: At least you have a couple of men to destroy. Try being me for a couple of weeks. You'd be drinking more than a glass of champagne.
Mia: At least your men die or almost die. Mine just boink other women and forget all about me.
Opal: Girlfriend, liquor never solved anything. My grandma always said it was better to wear metal underwear during a lightning storm than to drown your sorrows in moonshine.
Erica: Opal, you've talked me out of it. I'm not going to sit here and drink. I'm going back to the office. I wish I could go home and change first. Can you believe I've been wearing this dress for two days in soap time? That' s about a week and a half real time.

Lena's mother came to talk to Bianca.
Paulina: I vant you to forgive my daughter. It is my fault she is a liar. I knew she vould be a soap character someday and I thought it vould come in handy.
Bianca: Do you mean she's just like you?
Paulina: Daughters are often like their mothers.
Bianca: I'm so doomed.
Paulina: Please forgive her.
Bianca: I just don't think I can.
Paulina: Please. Our lives vere so difficult. I became a spy to keep my husband alive but he vas killed anyvay. It was sort of like Casablanca vithout Humphrey Bogart.
Bianca: I'll think about it.
Paulina: Ve are leaving for Chicago tomorrow if you don't stop her. Vat are the chances they vill cast another girlfriend for you so soon?

At Enchantment Boyd helped Lena pack up her office.
Boyd: I told Bianca she should give you another chance.
Lena: Why?
Boyd: It seems to be my role these days. I'm everyone's friend and I give good advice. Do you think my character is being wasted?
Erica: What is she doing here?
Lena: I'm packing my things. Boyd is helping me.
Erica: I think it's time for one of my Erica Kane hissy fits.
Boyd: I just remembered. I left the coffee pot on in my office.
Val: I have a dentist appointment.
Security Guard: Run for your lives. Evacuate the building. This is not a drill.
Lena: I know you're angry but I want you to know I really love your daughter.
Erica: :::whack::::
Isabella: Very good! Next time put a little less wrist and a little more elbow into it, but very good.

At Pine Valley Hospital, tragedy struck.
Lizzie: :::sob::::: I'm glad I didn't watch during my lunch hour today. I'd hate to have to explain why I came back to work wearing sun glasses. :::sob:::::

QUOTES

Paulina: I must speak with you about Lena.
Bianca: Did something happen to her?
Paulina: Yes. She fell in love.

Bianca: And you want me to forgive her?
Paulina: I want you to love her.

Boyd: It's never too late to love someone.
Lena: What if I don't know how?

Lena: I've never allowed myself to feel anything until now and look at the mess I've made.

Erica: I think that I'll use, ah, Lena's office. I hope they fumigated.

Paulina: She's lost, Bianca. You could show her another way. Oh, Lena has so much good in her. If you could only see past her mistakes --

Paulina: I want my daughter to be happy. Loving you makes her happy.
Bianca: How do you know that she loves me?
Paulina: Because she is willing to... to do what you asked. She is willing to leave you alone. Forever.

Paulina: Thank you for showing my daughter that love is possible, even for a short time.

Erica: Did I interrupt something here? A private going-away party? One last shot at seducing Boyd?

Erica: You have no shame, no conscience, no soul. No, you have no soul, to be in league with, with Michael Cambias. You are just as evil as he is.

Erica: Like sleep with a rapist?
Lena: I don't! Not any more.

Erica: As if you know what love is.
Lena: I do. I do because Bianca showed me.

Erica: You disgust me. The thought of you anywhere near my daughter Bianca just makes my skin crawl.
Lena: Because I'm a liar? Or because I'm gay?
Bianca: I'd like to know the answer to that question too, Mom.

***** (clip a) [Lena packs up her stuff at Enchantment under Boyd's supervision]

[amc030530a starts]
[Lena's office. The HPF does even casual in a classy way, demonstrating that being fired is no reason to let one's fashion standards slip: she's in a tight black t-shirt and a black flowy A-line skirt, with her hair loose and softly messy. She's clearing out her stuff, putting it away in boxes. The giant "Votre beauté m'éblouit" ("Your beauty dazzles me" -- *please* tell me that that's not yet another Erica ego booster?) poster eyeballs her as she picks up an envelope, pulls something out of it and smiles; a closeup shows her holding a strip of photobooth pics of her and Binks, all smiley and snuggly. (In the first three the right side of her face is partly cut off, the better to show Binks' cleavage front-and-center -- even at this scale it's impressive. The bottom pic shows her nuzzling into Binks' neck. The images are a little too small to see what they're wearing but Lena's in something black, Binks in something burgundy with a deep V-neck.) While she schmoops over the photos, Boyd pops in wearing a salmon-colored shirt that has a subtle fine stripe; the top two buttons are undone, with the starched collar open and spread, and the shirt is tucked in and bloused just so over neatly pressed khakis. Boyd? Sooooo gay. But yes, sooooo pretty]
Boyd: Need a hand?
Lena: [turns in surprise and smiles a little] Oh, Boyd. Thank you for coming.
Boyd: [walks toward Lena] Yeah, well, don't thank me. Human Resources called. I'm just here to [crosses arms manfully] supervise your packing and escort you from the premises. But I'm curious. Why'd you request me?
Lena: [shrugs] It seemed appropriate. [drops photos into a box and walks around behind her desk] I came here to steal your formula, and I failed. Also, [face and voice soften] I wanted to apologize. I ruined... so much. I'm truly sorry, Boyd.
Boyd: Yeah, well, I know you are. [Lena goes back to packing. Boyd reaches into the box on the desk, picks up one of the photo strips and looks at it] Lena, for the record... Bianca doesn't hate you.
Lena: I know she doesn't. She's not capable of hate.
Boyd: Yeah, well you sure as h*** put her to the test.
Lena: That's why she deserves a lot better than me.

***** (clip b) [Lena/s mother visits Bianca (no Lena)]

[amc030530b starts]
[Myrtle's. Binks enters the sitting room area through a door upstage, presumably from the kitchen since she's carrying a coffee mug. Now, she's had a few lapses in her usual very good if rather conservative taste -- the beige Borg implant cardigan from the 05/12/03 episode comes to mind -- but this has got to be the most hideous thing I've seen her wear in my admittedly limited AMC experience. Mere words cannot describe its sheer awfulness but I'll try: an olive green tank top in a rather heavy not-very-stretchy fabric that's darted all over the place in order to render it very close-fitting; there are big shiny red letters across the chest that say KA [large expanse of chest, in the middle of which nestles the butterfly necklace from the date eps] TY and then SAS below; there's some kind of design over the belly -- a horseshoe(?) on its side with some other object I can't identify; and attached to the top part of each strap is a bit of ruched light blue fabric that looks for all the world like a dead wrinkled caterpillar. Jesus, Binks, did you raid Maggie's wardrobe? To add insult to injury, Kendall's also wearing a tank top in this episode but hers is a simple plain white ‘beater and she looks totally fabulous; the comparison is just painful. There's a knock on the door. Binks puts down her mug and opens the door to reveal Mom-of-Lena]
Paulina: Bianca? I am Paulina Kundera, Lena's mother.
Bianca: Yes, I recognize you from the press conference. [Well, you certainly don't recognize her from the family resemblance. Casting a petite blonde woman as Lena's mom was kind of an odd move; Elizabeth Shepherd is lovely and has nice cheekbones but her features and facial structure look nothing like Sosnovska's. And not to knock a dayplayer or anything, particularly one who was the original Emma Peel, but Paulina's accent is not so much Polish as it is Moose-and-Squirrel]
Paulina: I hope you will forgive my rudeness but... I must speak with you about Lena.
Bianca: [instantly concerned] Did something happen to her?
Paulina: [bemused] Yes. She fell in love.

***** (clip c) [Paulina Kundera tries to explain Lena's ways to Bianca (no Lena)]

[amc030530c starts]
Bianca: Did Lena send you here?
Paulina: No. She would be very angry if she knew I was here.
Bianca: Well, I-I'm afraid that you've wasted your time. Um, Lena and I are over.
Paulina: Oh, is that what you really want? Please, if I could just come in for a moment?
Bianca: [rather ungraciously] All right. [steps aside to let Paulina in and tucks her hair behind her ear. Closes door] But whatever Lena told you --
Paulina: I want to apologize.
Bianca: [stops in her tracks] You hardly know me.
Paulina: My daughter lied to you because of me. Because... I taught her that lies are the only way to survive.
Bianca: Well, you taught her very well.
Paulina: I'm not proud of it. She told you that I was a fashion model?
Bianca: Let me guess, that was a lie.
Paulina: Yes. I was a seamstress.
Bianca: She also told me that you disapproved of her being gay. Was that a lie as well?
Paulina: [dryly] No, that was true. To be different in our culture... it makes you vulnerable.
Bianca: [raises eyebrows and walks past Paulina] Well, Lena is no longer vulnerable.
Paulina: [spins and addresses Binks' back] But she is!
Bianca: [turns around] Why are you telling me this?
Paulina: [moves toward Binks] Because I want you to understand why my daughter lied to you.
Bianca: I know why she lied to me. She did it so she could steal from my mother's company.
Paulina: No. So she could survive that man.
Bianca: So you blame Michael Cambias for Lena's lies.
Paulina: [shakes head and exhales] I blame only myself.
Bianca: [sits down, looking balefully up at Paulina] Like mother, like daughter?
Paulina: [sighs] When Lena was a child, her father and I were dissidents. When we were exposed, the government imprisoned my husband. They promised leniency if I would become an informant.
Bianca: And you did.
Paulina: Yes. I betrayed my friends, my family, anyone, to save my husband.
Bianca: And was he grateful?
Paulina: He died. Before the government fell, they killed him anyway.
Bianca: [shakes head] I'm very sorry, Mrs. Kundera, [stands slowly] I really am, but I'm afraid that that has nothing to do with what happened between your daughter and me.
Paulina: I am not making excuses. What Lena did was wrong, but it was all she knew. Until now.
Bianca: And you want me to forgive her?
Paulina: I want you to love her.

***** (clip d) [Boyd tries to convince Lena to stay and try to reconcile with Bianca]

[amc030530d starts]
Boyd: Bianca deserves better than you? That's the best you could come up with? What is this, Lena, you playing the sympathy card?
Lena: No, I mean it. [takes the photos from Boyd's hand and looks at them again] Bianca deserves to be with someone who won't... take advantage of her love. [drops pictures back into box on desk]
Boyd: You mean like you did.
Lena: [matter-of-factly] You despise me, don't you? [picks up box from under the giant poster and moves it behind her desk]
Boyd: No, I don't. I mean, you did some pretty hateful things. I don't know, maybe I'm a sucker for love, but... I think you were about to find it.
Lena: I thought so too, [spreads hands with a little ironic bow] till I blew it.
Boyd: You know, Bianca asked for my advice about you.
Lena: [laughs humorlessly] Let me guess. You told her to get as far away from me as possible.
Boyd: I said she should give you another chance.
Lena: [long look at Boyd] Why?
Boyd: Because she loves you.
Lena: [very softly] Yeah. [aloud] Well, she's a smart girl, so she didn't take your advice. She wants me to leave her alone.
Boyd: So you're just gonna give up that easily?
Lena: Look, every time Bianca's given me a chance, I've let her down. Even if she were brave enough to offer me another one, I don't think I'm in a position to take it.
Boyd: So that's it? You just walk away? You know, I never would have picked you for a coward.
Lena: I will honor her wishes and go.
Boyd: Lena, you love each other. Why not trust in that, and stay?
Lena: For me, it's too late.
Boyd: No. It's never too late to love someone.
Lena: [gives Boyd a look, then leans toward him] What if I don't know how? [This is probably the most nakedly honest thing Lena's ever said to anyone (other than Binks) in her life]

***** (clip e) [Boyd waxes about how great love is to Lena]]

[amc030530e starts]
Boyd: Love is something you feel, Lena, it's not something you learn. [perches on desk and looks over his shoulder at Lena as she transfers files into a box]
Lena: Well, I've never allowed myself to feel anything until now and look at the mess I've made.
Boyd: Yeah, well, that's the great thing about love. If it's strong enough, it can heal anything.
Lena: I think the best way for Bianca to heal right now is just to have me out of her life. Look, um... could I have a minute?
Boyd: [stands] Listen, I'm not supposed to let you out of my sight... but okay.
Lena: Thank you.
Boyd: Look, I'll, uh, I'll be in the hallway when you're done. [leaves and closes the door behind him]

***** (clip f) [Erica is surprised to see Lena at Enchantment]

[amc030530f starts]
[Erica coming out of her Enchantment office]
Boyd: Erica, hi.
Erica: Boyd.
Boyd: What's up?
Erica: My phone is being repaired so it's really impossible to concentrate in there.
Boyd: You know, you're always welcome in the lab.
Erica: Thanks, but I think that I'll use, ah, Lena's office. I hope they fumigated.
Boyd: Um, Erica --
Erica: [bursts through door and sees Lena] You! What are you doing here?

***** (clip g) [Pauline asks Bianca to reconsider dumping Lena (no Lena)]

[amc030530g starts]
Paulina: [as Binks walks away from her] I know what I am asking.
Bianca: It's impossible.
Paulina: Difficult, [Binks turns to face her] not impossible.
Bianca: I'm very sorry that Lena had a hard childhood but she's all grown up now.
Paulina: She's lost, Bianca. You could show [interlaces hands] her another way. Oh, Lena has so much good in her. If you could only see past her mistakes --
Bianca: You don't know what you're asking.
Paulina: I want my daughter to be happy. Loving you makes her happy.
Bianca: How do you know that she loves me?
Paulina: Because she is willing to... to do what you asked. She is willing to leave you alone. Forever.
Bianca: What are you talking about?
Paulina: We leave for Chicago tomorrow. We have relatives in Chicago. We leave tomorrow.
Bianca: And you want me to stop her?
Paulina: [nods] Mmhmm.
Bianca: I've done that once already. The last time that Lena was leaving forever, I did follow her, I ran after her, I made a fool of myself, I begged her to stay. If she thinks that I'm gonna do that again, then she --
Paulina: Lena expects nothing from you. She has given up hope even of a second chance. Unless...
Bianca: I hope that you'll be very, very happy in Chicago.
Paulina: All right. I understand. Thank you for showing my daughter that love is possible, even for a short time. [makes a little "Mm" noise and nods, then leaves. Binks looks thoughtful]

***** (clip h) [Erica starts giving Lena a tonguelashing]

[amc030530g starts]
Erica: What in the world are you still doing here?
Lena: I -- I was just about to --
Boyd: Lena's almost finished packing.
Erica: And -- and what are you doing? Are you helping her? Are you standing guard outside the door?
Boyd: No, of course not. It -- it's company policy for Lena to be escorted from the building, I'm just here to --
Erica: Please, believe me, I know what my company's policy is. She's supposed to be escorted out of here by someone from Human Resources or Security, not you.
Lena: Erica, I -- I assure you, I'm leaving.
Erica: With my chemist? Did I interrupt something here? A private going-away party? One last shot at seducing Boyd?
Boyd: Erica, please, she wasn't trying to seduce me, she's saying goodbye.
Erica: Boyd, will you open your eyes? I mean, a woman like Lena, she's playing you again!
Lena: Please, Erica, let's not do this. I'm done, I'm ready to go, and I promise you will never have to see me again.
Erica: I see. And you think that that's enough, that you can just walk away from all the damage that you've caused, to me, to my company, to my daughter --
Lena: Erica, I'm sorry --
Erica: Yeah, you're going to be very sorry. Because you're not going anywhere until I tell you exactly what I think of you.

***** (clip i) [Erica gives Lena a KaneSlap (tm)]

amc030530i starts]
Lena: Erica, I already know what you think of me.
Erica: Oh, there is so much more.
Boyd: Lena's already apologized. Do we... really have to do this?
Erica: Are you defending her? I can't believe it. After all you know about this woman. Boyd, how could you? Open your eyes. She still gets to you?
Boyd: No, she doesn't. And I can have her out of here and out of your life in five minutes.
Erica: I want those five minutes, Boyd.
Boyd: It just seems like there's been enough --
Erica: Please, please, leave us.
Boyd: All right. [exits. The door is still wide open. Not that that's significant or anything]
Erica: How do you do it? You charm your way into people's lives, and then you gut them. And the smile never leaves your face.
Lena: Erica --
Erica: You have no shame, no conscience, no soul. No, you have no soul, to be in league with, with Michael Cambias. You are just as evil as he is.
Lena: I am not --
Erica: Oh, you were just "following orders"?
Lena: I've done many things I'm not proud of.
Erica: Like sleep with a rapist?
Lena: I don't! Not any more.
Erica: No, no, of course, that's right, that's true. Because you needed something more, didn't you? You needed to have your own victim.
Lena: That's not true.
Erica: So you preyed on my daughter Bianca. Well, she trusted you. She gave you her heart. And you were only too happy to use every single part of it, weren't you?
Lena: No, Erica, I love Bianca, so -- [Erica slaps Lena. Context aside, it's quite amusing: Erica practically comes out of her shoes to reach Lena's face, and the sound editor Foleys it as if it were a barroom punch. Also, the way Lucci plays next scene makes it seem like Erica did more damage to her own hand than to Lena's jaw]

***** (clip j) [Lena asks Erica if she hates her because she's a liar or because she's gay]

[amc030530j starts]
Erica: [massages her hand] How dare you? As if you know what love is.
Lena: [holds hand briefly to her face, then drops it as she walks around behind her desk] I do. I do because Bianca showed me. [the open door is directly behind Erica. Oh, the foreshadowing on this show, she is so subtle, subtle! Except not]
Erica: And what did you do? You left her in pieces.
Lena: I never --
Erica: Stop! Just stop it. You disgust me. The thought of you anywhere near my daughter Bianca just makes my skin crawl.
Lena: Because I'm a liar? Or because I'm gay?
Erica: [sputters incoherently]
Bianca: [coming up behind Erica, who whirls around to face her] I'd like to know the answer to that question too, Mom.

The above described clips can also be found on my shared folder on AIM (http://www.aim.com to download). My user name on AIM is kymtaborn. E-mail me with your AIM user name (ktaborn@lightspeed.net) and I will give you access to the shared folder. When you have access, you can right click my user name on your buddy list and then click on get file. That should get you into the shared folder. If you have problems, then tweak your firewall. The downloads are slow because it has to go through the AIM filter AND often there are a lot of people downloading along with you. I apologize for the slow speed but this is the only way that I can distribute the clips at this time.

I am eliciting volunteers to host the clips throughout the web. If you have 5-25megs of space you can lend to this project, please let me know!
