TV GUIDE PROMO

Syd hunts for a ring tied to a romantic Scottish legend. TVGuide.

Sydney and Nigel (Tia Carrerre, Christien Anholt) head to Scotland in search of the "twine-ing rings," which belonged to a pair of doomed lovers in the 15th century. UlimateTV

PRESS RELEASE

Sydney and Nigel head to the Scottish Highlands in search of the missing half of the "twine-ing rings" that belonged to a doomed pair of star-crossed lovers from the 15th century. Legend has it that whoever wears the rings will find everlasting happiness together, and their employer, who's got one of the two, is anxious to put the myth to the test. Once there, Sydney faces more than a decaying castle and secret passageways, when she discovers that her own lost love, rival Relic Hunter Francois du Marier, is also in pursuit of the missing ring - but for far less romantic reasons.

COMMENTARY

04/21/00. This commentary is by Lady Jane Grey.

I liked many things about this weeks episode -- those lovely scenes when Ms. Carrere and Mr. Anholt play off against each other. When Nigel hits Sydney on the head then cowers in terror apologizing for it -- or when Sydney makes fun of Nigel's accent -- 'of course' The two seem much closer at those times than they do during Nigel's periodic sexual thoughts about Sydney.

I also liked the fact that Nigel was the one who unlocked the mystery of the ring, and that he did it by noting an inconsistency in the legends. Plausible and a little deeper than the usual solutions the the puzzle of where the relic is.

Another plus is that the bimbo quotient was *way* down. The woman at the center of the plot was just a regular human being. Nice that the plot carried itself, without an excess of flesh to carry it on.

I do wonder about Sydney. Is there a rush on condoms when word gets out she's attending a professional convention? Has she slept with every archaelogist she's met? And what does that say about her as a person?

It would be cool to meet maybe an older man, maybe her mentor in grad school, that she respects and cares about but *hasn't* boinked.
