COMMENTARY

This commentary is by Beboman.

This was an interesting episode. Sydney finds herself going after a relic, which will end up proving that Hercules was not really a mythical and literary character, but a factual, historical entity.

In this episode, Sydney and Nigel come face to face with an Amazon group led by Natasha (Joanie Laurer, formally known as Chyna).

This group is after The Belt of Hippolyte, a relic that will prove Hercules did exist. This belt was supposed to have been taken by Hercules from the last Amazon Queen. Later the Amazons recovered the belt and hid it. It is said that whoever finds the belt will be the true Queen of the Amazons.

Sydney is not driven by the need to find the relic, but by the need to save a friend. When she and Nigel arrive in Istanbul, they discover Sydney's friend and mentor has died at the hands of the Amazons and they have stolen the staff head, which was the clue to where the relic was hidden.

Once again, we see that Sydney will stop at nothing to save or avenge someone she considers to be a friend.

What makes this episode entertaining are the fight scenes. They show Sydney is a worthy challenger for even the strongest of Amazons. The fight scenes between Sydney and Natasha, as well as the other Amazons, were really good.

We can see that both Sydney and Nigel are very good at their jobs as relic hunters. However, they are much better as a team, and after Nigel is kidnapped by Natasha, Sydney finds herself going after her with even more ferocity, for now she has killed and hurt two of her friends.

Meanwhile, back at Trinity, Karen is fighting a war of her own; a war against the bureaucracy of Ed, the Facility Inspector, who has threatened to close down the storage area of the Ancient Studies Department and wants all the relics moved.

Both women fight their wars and end up triumphant. Sydney is able to win against Natasha and gain the respect of the Amazons. Karen is able to convince Ed and save the storage area from being condemned.

This was a well written, directed and acted episode. It flowed smoothly. My only major complaint was with Joanie Laurer. She is a very impressive and beautiful woman, with great physical abilities. She has a stage presence and looks very intimidating when she needs to. However, her voice and acting take away from her presence.

For the rest, this was not really a bad episode.
