PRESS RELEASE

Randall Fox, Sydney's father and a hydrodam-building engineer, beckons his daughter to China, so that he can keep his word to a group of monks. The holy men refuse to abandon Three Rivers for the dam's opening, believing their long-lost statue, the jade Empress, is hidden in the valley. An unlikely foursome - Syd, Nigel, Randall and his newly announced, rather young fianc‚e, Jenny - try to beat the clock and the odds, following a trail more than 700-years-old and knowing that failure means a watery grave.

COMMENTARY

This commentary is by Beboman.

Another good episode in this series. It provided an insight into Sydney's past and some idea of her family and her relationship with her father. It is an interesting relationship, to say the least.

After seeing this episode, we come to realize from where Sydney gets her adventurous nature and from whom she gets her respect for those things that identify people and their cultures.

This episode also provided us with a clear vision of the difference between a true Relic Hunter and a person with merely book knowledge of the matter and nothing else.

Even though Nigel is supposed to be Sydney's sidekick, I find him a bit more than just a sidekick. He is knowledgeable and informative, a bit on the bumbling side sometimes, but still very knowledgeable. His input helps Sydney solve the dilemma at hand. There is chemistry between Nigel and Sydney, not of a sexual nature, but one of friendship and caring. I like that.

I almost fell off the sofa laughing when Sydney goes to the defense of her father in the bar (as if Fred Dryer could not defend himself). It was cool to see how she took this big guy down, but it was worth a million to see his reaction.

The special effect of the waters by the statute swallowing Li Feng was very cool and he deserved it.

I also had a good giggle when Jenny, Sydney's father's girlfriend, managed to use her body and knowledge of the language to have the soldiers follow them to the cave without getting arrested. But what got me going was when they reached their destination in China and it was Jenny who was able to translate what the guards were saying. Sydney's expression was worth a million.

This was an entertaining, action packed episode. I enjoyed it very much.
