Rockford Files

Subject: ROCford files and The Way

'The Way' was uncensored after one cut, Xena head-butting the Wookie. When I heard the news, I though all this big fuss and palaver over one lousy Wookie head-butt? Maybe the censorship was just a publicity stunt? Maybe the priest was a Studios executive dressed up?

And then I saw the ROCford files starring Renee as an actress being attacked by religious fundamentalists who want to censor her movie and murder her. The evil priest has a black beard and long crinkle-cut hair. (Recognize anybody?) The censorship and the murder was all a plot between the Studios Executives and the priest to get publicity for the movie. The Truth is out there!

But the greatest glory of the movie was to see Renee again. To see her smile and cry and laugh. To see her having thoughts and emotions. To see her fight for Good against Evil. And to see her win. Oy! Those were the days.

Still Likes the Show

Subject: Letter to the Editor

I do not intend to send "Bitter diotribes" To all the wonderful people who attend this site, because I love the people in the Xenaverse, though they seem to be "put out" with me. I have a passion for this show, that is Undenyable. I constantly do my pathetic excuse for a Xena yell at school and basketball games, I videotape every ep, and get very mad when I can't. I goto the library here in the Xena desert and get every thing I can find Xena. I don't hide my Xena pride, and I don't like how people look at me when I tell them I like Xena, like It's some sort of sin.

Lately, I have been upset over missing season six, It being the last season and all, I really just want to catch every moment, and indulge in the beauty of all of it. Some of my fellow Xenites have lost all passion for the show after season five, and gave up all hope. I loved season five, all of it, There wasn't a moment I didn't enjoy! Most Xenites I encounter seem to have given all hope up that it isn't a wonderful show, portraying a beautiful friendship (or more, based on your beliefs) between two liberated women. I still see it. Why do we have to be so upset over season five that some of you refuse to even watch six, which if you didn't like five (I hear) you'll like six, how can you!?

Where do I complain about the new opening credits segment of the show? My favorite part was Lucy smiling when her name appeared. And they removed it. I want my smile!

I've been on your page for an hour or so & just wanted to thank you for a good site. I truly love Xena-Warrior Princess, & the bond between Xena & Gabrielle is really the strongest one to be seen on television today. Gabrielle is beautiful & one of the biggest reasons to watch the show, if you ask me. For the sixth season I truly hope to see even more of the X & G's special bond & hopefully it will intensify even more. So, again, thank you for a good page, it's very informative.

Scheduling Woes

From: Videntur@aol.com

Subject: WPHL TV 17 has changed Xena to Sat at 3:00 pm

I reside in the U.S. on the east coast and WPHL TV channel 17 use to show Xena: Warrior Princess on Friday nights at 9:00 PM and a repeat of the show on Saturdays at 3:00 PM. This year I noticed that they changed the time to only 3:00 PM on Saturdays (which is not the best time for a no. 1 show like Xena). Secondly, they did not inform anyone of the change nor did they advertise it on their station. To add insult to injury, on their website they listed the premier episode of Xena as 'Motherhood'. When I asked why the time change (with the Friday night cancellation) had occurred, this was the response:

Chrystal,

Thanks for taking the time to e-mail Philadelphia's WB17.

Programs change time slots as a result of lower ratings. If there were more fans like yourself, and XWP had been pulling in the kind of numbers deservant of a Friday, 9:00 pm time slot, then it certainly would not have been moved.

We are in the process of correcting an internal error on our site. The XENA information incorrectly lists the episode titled, "Motherhood" on Saturday, October 7, at 3:00 p.m.

The season premiere, "Coming Home," will air at that time.

Philadelphia's WB17

I have sent this to you in case there are fans who would like to write to channel 17, WPHL TV and show them that Xena is well deserving of a Friday night 9:00 PM timeslot and that the show still has a great many fans.

The website and E-mail address for WPHL channel 17 is as follows:

Website address: http://www.wphl.com/
E-mail address: wb17@mail.wphl.com

Any help you can render would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: I need help?!

I know this is probly the wrong place to send this but I'm on the verge of being desperate. I watch Xena on WB17 out of philadelphia PA. The problem they've moved the air time to 3:00 in the afternoon. I e-mailed them asking about this and there response was due to last seasons low rating's this was the time slot it was now and they had no plans to move it back to prime time. I think they've stopped showing the action pack altogether. First I really enjoy watching the show in a prime time slot. Second with a time slot like 3 pm I'm wondering how long it'll before they stop carrying the show altogether. In the meantime there showing bad 10 year old movie's that weren't that good when they were released. Maybe you could put an annoucement up to warn people in the area or at least get them watching at that time so maybe they'll change the time back to something decent!!!!!

Thanks for any help you can give.

Norwegian Fan Club

From: Thomas Gramstad
Date: Fri, 6 Oct 2000
Subject: [whoosh] Help fight Xena censorship in Norway!

I'm writing to you on behalf of Xenadu, the Norwegian Xena fan club, to ask for your support against the current censorship of Xena in Norway. I'd like to ask for your voting for articles against the censorship that I've written and have had published at the web site of the Internet version of Dagbladet, one of the biggest papers in Norway.

First, some words about the current situation: Xena and Hercules used to run consecutively on sundays, from about 5 p.m. to about 7 p.m. on TV3, a popular, national TV channel. They got through third season of Xena and Hercules, started reruns of Xena and began fourth season of Herc, while waiting for the fourth season of Xena (there's been a delay for all the Nordic countries regarding the fourth season of Xena). Then they suddenly stopped running both shows.

The reason turned out to be a A Christian Conservative group in Norway which called for the censorship of Xena, in order to "protect children from violence". This group taped and edited their own tape with "violent" out-of-context scenes from Xena. They took this tape to advertisers, and scared the advertisers to withdraw their support of the TV channel, and that's why the TV channel stopped sending Xena. They also stopped sending Hercules, even though the Christians never mentioned Hercules. (If "violence", and not strong women, lesbian subtext etc. is the issue, why did they never criticize Hercules?) I haven't seen their "special edition" tape, but I've learned that the scenes are mostly from "Destiny", "The Debt" and "Intimate Stranger". In other words, the Christians took violents acts by "evil-past" Xena and "Callisto-Xena" and presented that as "this is what the heroine Xena is really like".

When we in the fan club recently learned about this, we started a counter-campaign. We've written op-eds, articles, distributed a press release, been in contact with the TV station, will contact the advertisers, etc.

Currently, reruns of the first seasons of Xena and Hercules are shown after midnight on a smaller/local TV-channel owned by the same TV station. The Christians want to wipe Xena out of the heads of all young people or anyone who has "normal" working hours.

I've just had a new, long article, a reply to the Christian Conservative head honcho, Roar Roise, published on dagbladet.no. The newspaper has a "dice" system for voting. At the bottom of each article, there are images of six dices, with values from 1 to 6, 1 meaning "lousy article" and 6 meaning "great, fabulous article". So I'd like to ask you to look up the articles, scroll down to the end, and click the dices. The more votes, the higher up on the article list my articles will be, and thus more visible, drawing the attention of more people. The articles are in Norwegian, but you can vote even if you can't read them.

My most recent article is here: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2000/10/05/222040.html

This is another of my articles: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2000/09/26/220750.html

So if you could give each of these a 6, that would be great.

Also, Roise has an article here: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2000/09/26/220749.html (my recent article is in response to this) and there is another article praising Roise and his censorship success here: http://www.dagbladet.no/kultur/2000/09/21/220048.html (my first article is a response to that). If you could give these two a 1 each, that would be nice too.

I'll keep you posted on further developments about Xena in Norway.

From: elaina aiello
Subject: XENA

I am a very big fan of your website and I always go there for my information on my very favorite t.v. show, XENA.

I don't know if you guys have heard, but there is a petition online to have a 7th season of Xena. It was started because Lucy Lawless Tapert and Renee O'Connor do not wish for the series to come to an end.

so far there have been around 4900 signatures on the petition.

i'm doing this on behalf of all Xena fans...i did not start the petition but have been informed by someone who has.

All Xena fans would greatly appreciated it if you could help us out by putting the link to the petition site on your awesome website where more people can see it. please.

It doesn't matter so much if it does not work, what really matters is that Lucy and Renee will know that we tried and that we love both of them.

here's the link: http://www.petitiononline.com/XWP4aS7/

thank you for taking the time to read my email.

and thank you for providing me with awesome episode synopisis etc...
