DANIELLE AND THE RAP [52-55]
THE QUESTIONS & ANSWERS [56-72]

A NOTE ON MY GUEST SUMMARIES: This is as complete a summary of the Q&A periods as I can manage. I will not attempt to transcribe, but I will quote especially funny things the guests said occasionally. It's hard to convey this without voice inflection or facial expression, so keep in mind that about 90% of some guests' (Hudson and Danielle especially) answers were meant to be flippant or sarcastic -- they've great senses of humor! Anything that's in quotation marks is a direct quote.

[52] Danielle was very energetic -- she moved around on-stage so much that it was hard to get a good picture of her. She said she was jet-lagged and tired and on a sugar high from eating lots of chocolate -- at one point during the Q&A she said as an aside, "The Kit-Kat's kicking in now!"

[53] Danielle began her time on-stage dressed in sweats, sunglasses, and a sweatshirt wrapped around her head. She launched into a rap (which Sharon later told us Danielle had made up on the way to the con) which went like this:

[54] "Well, here's a little story `bout the queen of the Amazons She horsed around and came back with a Centaur son Her friend be the beautiful Gabrielle And until the Bitter Suite Xena was as well. But we haven't seen Ephiny for a while -- The writers they stuck her in the archive file! But a writer named Paul he does hold the keys 'Cause he write her into the next Hercules! Sooooooo... Don't you worry now `cause she's comin' back at'cha Waiting at home eating baked Velasca! She's guarding something that you cannot see -- Who's that? Watch out! It's a split personality!"

[55] Then she started singing, to the tune of "Ebony and Ivory": "Ephiny and Ephiny live together in perfect harmony. No, we don't! Yes, we do! We don't! I said we do!" (makes punching sounds) "Ow!" Then, getting the audience to sing a striptease song, Danielle pulled off the sweats and other rapper getup, and looked more like the Danielle Cormack we all know and love. She said she hoped her "bad rap" hadn't offended anyone, and asked if anyone had questions for her: "If you want to step up to the mike, I won't bite... yet!"

The Questions & Answers

[56] In response to a question about where she's been in the States this visit, she mentioned having just done a con in Detroit, then gone to England to promote her new movie. She later gave the title of the movie, VIA SATELLITE, which also stars Karl "Caesar/Cupid" Urban. She also said she just finished a film with Kevin Smith, a love story called CHANNELING BABY. She's about to start shooting an Australian film, then will do another New Zealand movie. Her first film, she said later in the Q&A period, was called TOPLESS WOMEN TALK ABOUT THEIR LIVES (no, she wasn't really topless in it), in which Joel Tobeck (Strife) also starred.

[57] The next questioner asked for a hug, which of course is against the rules. She did it anyway, then did a big "group hug" so no one else would ask. Someone else did, though, a while later, and she apologized and said she couldn't.

[58] A fan said that now that Gabrielle was dead, Ephiny is the true queen of the Amazons. But what will Ephiny do when Gabrielle comes back? Danielle responded incredulously, "She's coming back?!" As to what Ephiny will do, "I'll break her legs, slowly." When asked what kind of character she likes to play the most, she answered that she loved Ephiny's HOOVES & HARLOTS [10/110] personality and would love to explore that aspect of the character more fully. She also mentioned her role in the new kids' series AMAZON HIGH; she plays Samsara, who she says makes the H&H Ephiny look like an angel! She later discussed Samsara a little more; she said that character is good, but pretends to be bad.

[59] Someone asked if she has any advice for aspiring actors -- her response: "Don't do it!" Someone else asked the exact same question a while later (making me wonder if these folks even listen), and she said you need a lot of patience, and suggested taking acting classes.

[60] In response to a question about her future on HERCULES and XENA, she told us that she's filmed an episode of HERCULES for next season (as Ephiny), but was too busy to commit to any XENA episodes. Somebody asked which show she likes better, and she took an audience poll to see how many fans of each were there, then gave the diplomatic answer that she likes both equally.

[61] Someone started to ask about a rumor that Bruce Campbell and Robert Trebor -- here Danielle interrupted, "Are lovers? I heard that too!" The questioner went on to ask about a rumor that BC & RT were planning to market Danielle, Renee O'Connor, Hudson Leick, and Lucy Lawless as the new Spice Girls. Danielle answered, "After my performance tonight, I highly doubt it!"

[62] In response to a question about whether Danielle plans to do any film or TV in the United States, she said probably not -- she's open to the possibility, but she prefers to work at home in New Zealand.

[63] Has she ever been injured on the show? She said yes -- and she injured someone in the same scene. While filming for AMAZON HIGH, she and Karl Urban had a fight scene. They were trying to make it look real, so they were giving it their all. Karl gave her a black eye, and Danielle gave him a bloody nose. I guess they did a good job making it look real! When asked if she had to learn any special skills for her roles on the shows, she said no; she pretends she knows what she's doing.

[64] At that point, Danielle happened to notice the huge security guard standing near the stage wearing a costume that was more medieval than ancient Greek, and holding a battle axe. She looked pretty shocked at his size and appearance. Her reaction was funny to watch. Hey, at least he was on her side!

[65] A fan mentioned the scene in THE BITTER SUITE [58/312] where Xena breaks Ephiny's arm and asked her how Ephiny would deal with that when next she meets Xena. Danielle answered, "I've spoken to the Mafia, and I've got a contract out on her."

[66] Someone who attended the Burbank con, where Danielle was very shy and overwhelmed, pointed out the difference between then and the outgoing persona she was displaying now. She remarked that yes, she was shy at first, and now she's gotten "too big for my boots!" Asked if she's had any weird experiences at cons, she responded, "No, they're lovely things!"

[67] Asked about her schedule, Danielle said she shoots HERCULES and XENA episodes in between films. Asked which she prefers (films or the shows), she said she likes the energy of the shows, and that the characters and stories are different from any she's done in the movies. She told us that she's got a lot of screen-time in the HERCULES episode she's done, and she's got some great lines, and gets to kick some ass. (Then she realized there were children in the room and amended that to "derriere".)

[68] A 12-year-old asked how she got started in acting. She said she started taking acting classes at age 8. Someone asked about future XENA storylines and she said she doesn't know anything about them. The next person asked what her favorite TV show as a kid was -- it was WONDER WOMAN. Asked who her favorite character other than Ephiny is, she said she loves Velasca.

[69] Somebody asked what she likes most about Ephiny. She thought about this for a long time before answering. She likes that Ephiny's maternal, and said that Ephiny originally wanted to be queen of the Amazons for all the wrong reasons. When she finally became queen, she knew she had to look inside herself and get past all that in order to be a good queen. Danielle admires that aspect of her character. Asked how much of her is in Ephiny, she answered, "Oh, about 5-foot-6." She said that she, Danielle, would not make a good ruler -- "the whole city would fall down!" So how much of her is in Ephiny? "Not too much, not too little."

[70] A very young child asked when the Ephiny doll is coming out. Danielle said she didn't know, but if you get one, you have to break her arm, then get a Xena doll and get Ephiny to break both her legs! Somebody commented that Danielle has really nice hair; she laughed and said, "I stuck my finger into an electric socket!" Asked whether she prefers the comedies or the darker episodes on XENA, she said she likes both.

[71] Someone commented on how good her American accent is, and asked if it's hard to change accents. She scoffed at the compliment -- she doesn't think much of her American accent and says it's very hard for her. She tries to imitate Hudson and other Americans on the set.

[72] And that was about it. Danielle is sweet, funny, and a bit self-deprecating; she said at least once during her time on-stage that she was sure she wasn't the one everyone was there to see (loud dissents from the audience on that one). She appeared to be having a great time up there, chocolate high or no. She was a delight to watch and it was wonderful to see her in person!
