   Some years you weep a little, sad that the previous year has passed so
quickly. But years like 1998, well, they just don't pass fast enough. As if the
hanky-panky at the White House wasn't enough, we elected a wrestler to be a
governor. We had astronomers telling us an asteroid would smack us into oblivion
in 30 years - only to tell us two days later that they goofed up their
calculations and that we'd all be just hunky-dory for at least a few hundred
more years. What next? Computers going haywire at the stroke of midnight on Jan.
1, 2000? Nah. That could never happen. ...
