Boyd and Bianca continue their quest to find out which one of them Lena would be interested in romantically.

From About All My Children
http://allmychildren.about.com/library/recaps/2003/bl20030306.htm

Erica looks over the business proposal with Lena, and says Enchantment stands to make a tidy sum over the next five years. Lena asks about Mr. Cambias, and Erica says that Michael will do very well, too. Lena has no doubt of that, adding that he is not to be trusted. Erica laughs as she agrees he's a shark, and Lena wonders why she would want to be involved with him? As she's about to answer, Bianca comes into the office and apologizes for interrupting, but Erica insists they were just finishing up. Lena asks what she's holding, and she smiles as she tells them it's an idea she's been kicking around, especially since they went to that trunk show together. "You went to that trunk show together?" Erica repeats. Bianca says yes, and then they had a great dinner together - or at least she thought it was great! Lena looks at Erica as she agrees it was wonderful. She excuses herself for a meeting, and Erica agrees they'll finish up later. Lena leaves and Bianca asks, "Well?" Erica hesitates before saying Lena is lovely, and she's very intelligent, but…. Bianca says she meant her ad; does she want to see it? Erica does, but can't keep from saying that she knows technically Bianca is an adult, and she's not trying to pry, "Is there something going on between you and Lena?" Bianca smiles mysteriously as she replies, "Not yet." Erica asks if she really wants a relationship to develop with Lena, and Bianca notes that her mother really doesn't want to talk about this. Erica goes on that Lena is very attractive, but just doesn't seem…. She asks Bianca how many times she's going to let her heart be broken? Bianca asks what she means, and Erica says she means that Lena is as gay as she is! Bianca laughs as she asks if her mom thinks her "gay-dar" is more finely tuned than hers? She teases Erica, asking if that was an interview question? She tells Erica this conversation is way premature, and Erica counters that Lena is too old for her. Bianca reminds her that she's been involved with older men, and it's no different. Erica tries another tack, saying that Lena works here and knows she is her daughter, but Bianca only laughs harder as she says if that disqualifies date material, then she is going to be one lonely lesbian! She knows Erica just doesn't want to see her get hurt, and she appreciates that and loves her for it. Erica gets that she wants her to mind her own business, and says she likes the ad concept. Bianca says she'll get back to the grind, and leaves the office. The door opens again as Erica is looking over the ad, and she assumes it's Bianca. Instead, Kendall is there...

Bianca runs into Boyd, and tells him her mom just broke it to her that she doesn't think Lena is gay, and she says Lena is too old for her! Boyd grins that she's definitely not too old for him, but Bianca says he might be the wrong gender! They joke about their bet, and Boyd confidently says Lena wants him. Bianca disagrees, saying Lena wants her! He thinks they should settle this right now and, for the record, he's going to want a lobster and steak dinner, with cheesecake! Bianca laughs that he can order whatever he wants, because he's going to be paying! Boyd straightens his collar as he tells her, "Stick around, kiddo, because the master is going to settle this right now!" He goes into Lena's office and says he was just thinking about her invitation to have dinner sometime. Lena suggests tonight, and says she'll pick him up. They agree on seven o'clock, and that it's a date! Boyd comes out and tells Bianca they're having dinner tonight, and Lena is picking him up at his place, "She doesn't play on your team!" Bianca tells him to just wait here! She goes into Lena's office and says she wanted to let her know her mom was totally fine about their going to that trunk sale together. Lena is glad, saying she was afraid Erica might think she was taking advantage and goofing off. She notes that it can't be easy for her, working for her mother's company; she's a very fine woman, and she hopes they can have dinner again sometime. They agree it's a date, and Bianca leaves. Boyd is waiting, and Bianca says she and Lena are having dinner. She adds that Lena will find out whose team she's on when it comes to saying their goodnights!

Previously on All My Children
Kendall was convinced (and correct) that Erica sets out to purposely hurt her.
A drunken Mia threw herself at Carlos.
Boyd and Bianca initiated a little bet about Lena’s sexuality.
Edmund. Mauria. That whole moving on schtick.
Tiza kissage! Whoo!...

Lena and Erica have a cryptic conversation about The ***hat's joint venture offer. Bianca busts in on them. She has some ad ideas to run past Erica. Erica picks up on some UST between Bianca and Lena...

Lena takes her leave and Erica asks Bianca if she’s got something going on with Lena. “Not yet,” answers Bianca...

Erica tries to play the role of the protective mother, but Bianca realizes that she’s really uncomfortable talking about her daughter dating women. Erica just doesn’t think Lena is gay. Bianca is taken aback. “Oh! So you think that your gaydar is more finely tuned than mine?” “‘Gaydar?’” repeats Erica. And Bianca, your gaydar is not anything to brag about. Bianca appreciates the protectiveness but wants her mother to mind her own business...

Bianca lets Boyd in on her recent conversation with her mother about Lena. Boyd thinks Erica is correct about Lena’s sexuality. They have a friendly argument about who’s right in their assumptions. Boyd purposefully stride over to Lena’s office to put an end to the debate...

Boyd enters Lena’s office and schmoozes a dinner invitation at her. They make plans and she offers to pick him up at his place since she’s the one who instigated the date in the first place. Boyd goes back outside and crows about his date to Bianca. “Sorry, Binks, but Lena… she doesn’t play on your team.” Hee. Bianca vows to prove him wrong.

Bianca goes into Lena’s office and takes her turn at being flirty. She manages to wangle her own date out of Lena, though they don’t make any definitive plans. She goes back out and brags to Boyd about her success. “Maybe we’ll find out whose team she’s on when it comes to… saying our good nights,” leers Bianca. She and Boyd grin. I love their scenes and this whole bet subplot. It’s hysterical.

COMMENTARY 1

From Kym Taborn

My DAUGHTER is not gay. My daughter IS not gay. My daughter is NOT gay.

Erica gave a forced smile when she realized that Bianca and Lena
had had dinner the night before and Bianca was very pleased with it
"Lena is as gay as I am."
That's Erica speaking. Uh-huh. Boyd did not think Lena was gay because she was aggressively hitting on him. However, she was also subconsciously, then eventually consciously, attracted to Bianca. That dual flirting was driving Boyd and Bianca to distraction. Why did Erica think Lena was not gay? Perhaps she felt someone whom she thought capable and cultured could not be gay?

Bianca introduces the word "gaydar" to her mother

Lena is too old issue raised and then summarily dismissed by Bianca

Erica: Lena is too old for you, honey.
Bianca: Well, you've been involved with older men. And don't tell me that it's different because it's not.

My favorite bit on dialog (does it get any better than this?)

Bianca: Hey.
Boyd: Hey.
Bianca: Guess what Mom just broke to me.
Boyd: What's up?
Bianca: She doesn't think that Lena is gay, and she says that Lena is too old for me.
Boyd: Well, she's definitely not too old for me.
Bianca: Yeah, but you might be the wrong gender for her.
Boyd: Not even willing to take your mom's word for it, huh?
Bianca: Uh-uh, no way. Our bet is on, and, you, my friend, are going to be buying me dinner.
Boyd: Binks, Binks, Lena wants me.
Bianca: Boyd, Lena wants me.
Boyd: Fine. Let's settle this right now. Where is she?
Bianca: She's in her office preparing for a meeting.
Boyd: In there?
Bianca: Right in there.
Boyd: For the record, I'm going to want a lobster steak dinner with cheesecake.
Bianca: Well, order whatever you want because you're the one that's going to be paying.
Boyd: Yeah, right. Stick around, kiddo, because the master is going to settle this right now.
And it continues on without missing beat in the next scene with Boyd, Bianca, and Lena!

It makes me kinda wish I was watching the show then (only kinda, because it still travelled at a snails pace...much better seeing it unfold without all the other crap happening around it).

Why don't they have dialogue like this anymore??? Oh yeah, McTavish. Nevermind.

Also, Boyd and Bianca are getting pretty predatory about Lena. But then, Lena pretty predatory herself. What goes around comes around!

***** (clip a) [Lena's 1st mention in Previously On: BOyd and Bianca's bet about Lena]

Kendall: Putting the moves on Michael -- how sick is that? She wants to hurt me. It's what she lives for.
Carlos: You're drunk.
Mia: And you're cute.
Boyd: How about a friendly wager? Dinner at the Valley Inn for whoever gets Lena first?
Edmund: We have to get on with our lives. Just be Maureen. That's who you are.

***** (clip b) [Erica finds out Bianca and Lena went to the trunk show together]

[amc030306b starts]
Erica: You really think we can do this well?
Lena: This is a very realistic estimate.
Erica: Oh, well, then, over the next five years, Enchantment should make quite a tidy sum.
Lena: Yes, but Mr. Cambias --
Erica: Oh, Michael will do very well, too.
Lena: I have no doubt about that, but Mr. Cambias is not to be trusted.
Erica: No, of course not. Michael is a shark.
Lena: Then why do you want to be involved with him?
Erica: Because our charming Mr. Cambias has --
Bianca: Oh, dear. I didn't want to interrupt. Sorry.
Erica: Oh, no, that's all right, sweetheart. Come on in. We're just finishing up.
Bianca: Oh, ok.
Lena: What have you got there?
Bianca: Oh, this is, you know, an idea I've been kicking around, especially since we went to that trunk show together.
Erica: You went to the trunk show together?
Bianca: Yes, and then we had a great dinner afterwards. Well, I thought it was great.
Lena: Yes, it was wonderful.

***** (clip c) [Erica is fixated on Bianca dating Lena]

[amc030306c starts]
Lena: If you'll excuse me, I have a meeting shortly with Alexandra.
Erica: Yes, yes. Yes, of course. We will finish up later.
Lena: Thank you.
Erica: All right.
[Door closes]
Bianca: Well?
Erica: Well -- Lena is lovely, and she's very intelligent, but --
Bianca: Mom, I meant my idea. The ad -- do you want to see it?
Erica: Of course I do, honey. Yes. But, Bianca, I know that technically you're an adult. And I am not trying to pry. It's just that I -- are you -- is there --
Bianca: Is there something going on between me and Lena?
Erica: Yes.
Bianca: Not yet.

***** (clip d) [Erica has worse gaydar than Bianca (Lena mention)]

[amc030306d starts]
Erica: Really? You want a relationship to develop between you and Lena?
Bianca: Mom, you don't want to talk about this.
Erica: I'm just surprised, that's all.
Bianca: What, that I find Lena interesting?
Erica: No. No, no, of course not. Lena's very attractive, but --
Bianca: Ok, Mom, you -- you don't have to worry about me.
Erica: Look, she just doesn't seem -- oh, honey. Look, how many times are you going to let your heart be broken?
Bianca: Meaning?
Erica: Meaning Lena is as gay as I am.
Bianca: Oh. So you think that your gaydar is more finely tuned than mine?
Erica: My "gaydar"?
Bianca: Or maybe you've asked her. Was this an interview question?
Erica: Oh, come on, don't be silly.
Bianca: Ok. But this conversation is way premature.
Erica: Then there's her age.
Bianca: Oh, Mom.
Erica: Lena is too old for you, honey.
Bianca: Well, you've been involved with older men. And don't tell me that it's different because it's not.
Erica: Lena works here, and she knows that you're my daughter.
Bianca: Oh, well, if that disqualifies date material, then I am going to be one lonely lesbian.
Erica: I'm so glad you find this so funny.
Bianca: Ok, it's not funny, but, Mom, everybody knows that I'm your daughter.
Erica: And I just don't want --
Bianca: You just don't want to see me get hurt, and I appreciate that, Mom. I love you for it.
Erica: But you want me to mind my own business.
Bianca: Yeah, that's exactly right.
Erica: I like the ad comp.
Bianca: Really?
Erica: I really do. It's fresh. It's invigorating.
Bianca: Great. So you approve?
Erica: Of the ad comp.
Bianca: Fair enough. All right, well, I'm going to go get back to the grind. I want to be sure to set a good example.
Erica: Bianca, I've -- Kendall.

***** (clip e) [Boyd and Bianca fight over who Lena wants (Lena mention)]

[amc030306e starts]

Boyd: I'm not interrupting anything, am I?
Lena: No, you're always welcome.
Boyd: Lena, I was just thinking about your invitation to have dinner sometime.
Lena: Yes. Are you busy tonight?
Boyd: Well, I sure hope so.
Lena: Wonderful.
Boyd: Should I pick you up at your place?
Lena: No, I asked you out first. I'll pick you up -- or we can meet at the restaurant.
Boyd: My place it is. Say 7:00?
Lena: Good. It's a date.
Boyd: I'll see you then.
Boyd: We're having dinner tonight. She's picking me up at my place. Sorry, Binks, but Lena -- she doesn't play on your team.
Bianca: You just wait here.
[Knock on door]
Lena: Oh, Bianca.
Bianca: Hi.
Lena: Hello.
Bianca: Hi. I just -- I just wanted to let you know that my Mom was totally fine about us going to that trunk show together.
Lena: Good. I was afraid she might think I was taking advantage, you know, goofing at work.
Bianca: Oh, you mean goofing off.
Lena: That's right. It must be hard for you, working for your mother's company.
Bianca: Well, people just expect me to be like her, and I'm not.
Lena: You don't have to be. You're your own very fine woman. I hope we can have dinner again sometime.
Bianca: Oh, I would love that.
Lena: Good. It's a date.
Bianca: Great. It's a date.
Boyd: So?
Bianca: So? We're having dinner.
Boyd: Great. What time are you picking me up?
Bianca: Silly. I mean Lena and me. Maybe we'll find out whose team she's on when it comes to saying our good nights.
