1.1 WHAT IS IAXS? WHAT IS XENOID?

IAXS (The International Association of Xenaoid Studies) is a quasi-
literate, quasi-academic, quasi-fandom, entirely FUN excuse to write
about and share with others your unique obsession with all aspects of
Xena: Warrior Princess (XWP), an action/fantasy television
show which was produced 1995-2001, OR any other TV show that features
a strong action/adventure female lead, OR a show or flick that I
currently like (who am I? I am Kym, the founder of IAXS). Yeah, I am
stretching it, but it's MY association!

The mandate of IAXS is:

   (1) to facilitate the publication of Whoosh!, the Journal
       of the International Association of Xenoid Studies (see 1.2
	   below, 'What is Whoosh!' for more details);

   (2) to maintain the web site: http://whoosh.org;

   (3) to create and maintain an on-line episode guide for those
       exhibiting a Xena-oid or Xena bent; a XWP FAQ that
	   will provide condensed information about EVERYONE's favorite TV
	   show; an area for news, gossip, and rumors for the shows covered
	   in the episode guide; an area for convention/fest/fan activity
	   reports; a Forum where we can write about our obsessions; and
	   other sundry items reveling in the TV show, Xena: Warrior
	   Princess or its ilk and its scions; and,

   (4) to encourage good, clean, obsessive behavior towards anything
       remotely to do with anything on this website.

So, what is Xenoid? Well, it has nothing to do with tonsil removal. It
does, however, have to do with Xena: Warrior Princess. It means
those women characters who have existed in the past and present
and future who embody the spirit of that Warrior Princess. In other words,
ladies who can kick hinder, take names, and inspire and entertain women
and men of many generations.

1.2 WHAT IS WHOOSH? IS IT PAINFUL? IS IT PAINFUL TO SUBMIT TO IT?

Whoosh! is not just a cool and hip and fun website, it is
also the Journal of the International Association of Xenaoid Studies.
(JIAXS or Whoosh -- your choice!).

Whoosh! is a monthly publication which is released on-line
on the 1st of every month. We have been here since 1996. Don't even
ask about what it is in dog years.

The cut off date for any submission to Whoosh! is the 15th
day of the month before the month before the next Whoosh!
will be released. E.g., to submit an article for possible inclusion
in the October 2005 issue, the first draft of the article must be
received by August 15, 2005. The publisher, however, reserves the
right to run the article in any issue she chooses. Submitting it by
then, though, helps us publish your paper timely.

Once received the first draft will be edited to conform to Whoosh!
guidelines. The article will be returned to the author for review at
some point in the editing process, usually more than once. From that
draft other changes may made be before publication. The publisher,
however, reserves the right to make all the final editing decisions.
We endeavor also endeavor to have a pre-graphics and post-graphics
review as well.

The usual process for an article goes thus:

	(1) You send us your final draft (it can be a word processed
	    file attached to an email, it can be in the body of the email;
		we prefer text files or word processed files -- if an html
		file is submitted, unless it is a special circumstance, it
		will be returned to the sender and asked to re-submit it as
		either a text file or word processed file);
	(2) this draft is edited by underpaid and underappreciated
		Whoosh! editors and once done, we send you our
		suggested editor's draft;
	(3) you review the editor's draft and then sign off or add to or
	    comment on the edits;
	(4) we may go back and forth until the publisher signs off on the
		edit;
	(5) we then may do some last minute editing for grammar, flow,
		fact-checking, and then format the paper for Whoosh!
		publishing;
	(6) we code the article;
	(7) if we have time, we send you the url for a pre-graphics review
		before the article is released [we ask you not to share that
		url until after the issue has been released, thank you];
	(8) we add the graphics and alt tags [if not provided by the author];
	(9) we upload the article to the website, if there is time, we will
		send you the url for a post-graphics review before the article
		is released [we ask you not to share that url until after the
		issue has been released, thank you];
	(10) the issue is released unto the world on the first of the month
		that the issue it was assigned to goes live.

We reserve the right to make final editing decisions, title and subtitle
changes, and graphic and coding choices. Also, Whoosh holds the
copyright on the Whoosh! edit, while the author holds the copyright
on the content of the article. The author is free to e-edit and rewrite
their content without permission of Whoosh!, but if they wish
to use the Whoosh! edition edits and/or presentation, they must
have permission of Whoosh! first.

Kym Taborn is the Founder/Publisher/Editor-in-Chief/Webmaster of
Whoosh! and is the Chairman-for-Life of the Mysterious and
All-Powerful Executive Committee (Bret Rudnick and Cynthia Ward
Cooper round out the committee). Kym runs the show. She calls all
the shots. She **is** the Big Kahuna. The buck stops with her. If
you do not like that, start your own club!

Two sister FAQs (IAXS FAQ 2: PENDING PROJECTS and IAXS FAQ 3: COMPLETED
PROJECTS) are dinosaurs of a long ago golden age. I have then still
up because they are fun to look at.

As to potential harm, Whoosh! may or may not be painful. It depends
upon the individual and how they decide to use it.

1.3 HOW DO I JOIN IAXS?

Membership is free and open to all. In fact, we are on an honor system.
Everyone who has contributed to the site in any way is a member! Yay!
And people who have PLEDGED a contribution are members too. We like
everyone. We are a happy family. We few... we happy few. Etc. Etc.

What will membership give you? Other than a headache, you mean?
Membership is a badge of service to the genre media fan community that
you have shared your love and enjoyment of genre media with other
fans freely and openly. Now that's a badge!

But other than that, it's all just in one's head...one's attitude...
one's essence.

   7. Do you have a good time interacting with other Xenoidites (or fill
      in your own fandom)?
