Hi, my name is...
REMEMBER NOTHING (26/202) and SACRIFICE (67-68/321-322)
Played by Micaela Daniel.
One of the Fates, referred to by Xena as The Mother, she measures the thread of life. In Greek mythology the Fates were lesser gods of the Earth. They were assigned at man's birth to give him good and evil to have in his life. In REMEMBER NOTHING Xena visits one of their temples and protects it from raiders. In the process she kills a young boy and feels so badly about doing so that when the Fates thank her and offer her a reward, Xena wishes that she never 'followed the sword.' The Fates grant her wish and Xena goes back to an alternate reality where she never became a warlord, her beloved brother Lyceus is still alive and Gabrielle has become a slave. [LW]

Hi, my name is...
TALE OF TWO MUSES (74/406)
Played by Vicky Halighton
Cut part from the script. After Autolycus' words "I've seen the light" etc., Istafan says to the militia, "The rest of you. Stop this." After Xena and Autolycus knock out Licinus. Then the script goes [KT]:

ON AN OLD LADY
She stands and walks up to Andros who's cutting a mean rug.
OLD LADY: Stop that! (beat) You're doing it all wrong.
She starts to dance. Pretty soon some other adults join the dance.
Then members of the Militia join in.
ON ISTAFAN
He collapses onto a chair, a beaten man.

The wife of Lao Tzu, Lao Ma takes an interest in the feral Xena and asks her to be her warrior princess. Xena thinks about it, but eventually says no but keeps the cool title. Later, say ten years, Lao Ma calls Xena back to Chin to deal with her son, the Green Dragon. [KT]

Meg
Hi, my name is...
WARRIOR...PRINCESS...TRAMP (30/206) and WARRIOR...PRIESTESS...TRAMP (55/309)
Played by Lucy Lawless.
Meg is a character only seen to be believed. Her father died in childbirth and her mother died when she was 12. She fell into the clutches of Agis who exploited her in a plot to impersonate and defraud Princess Diana. Eventually she dumped Agis and became the cook at King Lias' castle [WARRIOR...PRINCESS...TRAMP]. When we later catch up with her, she runs a bordello and is duped by Balius to impersonate Leah, a Hestian Priestess, so he can take over her temple and change its worship [WARRIOR...PRIESTESS...TRAMP]. Meg's most distinguishing personality trait is that she is sexually attracted to Joxer. Unforetunately, for him and us, Joxer dumped Meg in favor of his obsession with Gabrielle. [KT]

Megaera
Hi, my name is...
THE FURIES (47/301)
Played by Graciela Heredia.
Megaera doesn't see quite as much action as her dear sister and fellow Fury Alecto does, but she does get to shimmy in the corners with her other sister Tisiphone when Alecto gets all the dialogue. [KT]

Melana
Hi, my name is...
A SOLSTICE CAROL (33/209)
Played by Sheri Booth.
Melana is King Sylvus' long separated wife. She runs an orphanage. After an orphan steals Xena's chakram for a Solstice tree ornament (yeah right), Xena and Gabrielle are sucked into the action again when they are forced to save the orphanage, reconcile Melana and Silvus, and stop Silvus from making more stupid laws like he had been doing in the past. [KT]

Melinda Pappas
Hi, my name is...
See Pappas, Melinda

Melosa
Hi, my name is...
HOOVES AND HARLOTS (10/110)
Played by Alison Bruce.
When we first meet the Amazons in "Hooves and Harlots", Melosa is the Queen. Her sister Terreis has just been killed, supposedly by a centaur. Terreis was to be the next in line, the next amazon queen, but just before she died she gave her "right of caste" to Gabrielle, who had tried to save her. Melosa is a strong woman. She is a warrior, most likely the best of her clan. In a warrior society, like the Amazons, she would not be able to hold her position as Queen and leader, if this were not the case. Melosa cares deeply for her people as a leader, teacher, and sister. She is wise and level-headed, not rash in action. She has a strong devotion to duty, honor, and tradition. Her struggle to both uphold tradition, and be a good and wise leader, is what makes her both special, and strong-willed (stubborn). She is not quick to change, and needs to be prodded a bit, but she is always desirous of doing what is in the best interests of her Amazons. Velasca was an adopted daughter of Melosa. Velasca also killed Melosa to gain control of the Amazons. Velasca wanted power and control, she was willing to kill for it, and felt it her right to supersede the "right of caste", and the best interests of "her" people. Another marker of Melosa's character is that she really wasn't the Queen by any kind of maintained force. She was a true leader who inspired people to follow her. Melosa lost control of the Amazon's, when Xena defeated her in combat to avert an Amazon/Centaur war. Xena ask Melosa to capitulate and help her, rather than to choose to die, Melosa acquiesced...Losing to Xena, and not choosing to die, could have been seen as a major weakness, making Melosa ripe for a hostile takeover within the Amazons. However, that never happened because the Amazons never perceived her to be either weak, or as a tyrant that they wished to have removed. Later, after Melosa's death, we see this as well, when many of the Amazons will not fall in line behind Velasca. Truthfully, Melosa was getting older, and there were younger, tougher Amazons in her clan (including her sister Terreis and possibly even Ephiny but she continued to retain control because she was a leader. The depths of Melosa's personality, leadership, influence, and teachings can best be seen in the reflection of those who followed her. Her sister Terreis' strong sense of leadership, fair, open-mindedness, honesty, and integrity... which we see further reflected in Ephiny, and then into Gabrielle. All that is noble and good, chose to follow Melosa, a legacy that anyone would aspire to. [RH]

Hi, my name is...
THE DELIVERER (50/304) and GABRIELLE'S HOPE (51/305)
Played by Catherine Boniface.
Gabrielle's first kill. You always remember the first one, Gabrielle. Meridian is a follower of Dahak and a good pal of Khraftstar. Together they staged the event of the year: the loss of Gabrielle's blood innocence. While Meridian was pretending to offer up a bound Khraftsar, Gabrielle came to his aid and kabobbed Meridian [THE DELIVERER]. After that, everything changed, including regular nightmares [GABRIELLE'S HOPE].

Messini, Miss
Hi, my name is...
HERE SHE COMES...MISS AMPHIPOLIS (35/211)
Played by Simone Russell.
Miss Messini is sponsored by the Doge of Messini in the Miss Known World Pageant. Early in the pageant someone sabotages her harp to shoot a cross bow at whoever plays it. She plays it, but Xena saves her surreptitiously, making it look like Salmoneus did it (she's under cover as Miss Amphipolis). [KT]

Minya
Hi, my name is...
A DAY IN THE LIFE (39/215), and THE QUILL IS MIGHTIER... (56/310)
Played by Alison Wall.
Minya of Laurel: The Ultimate Xena Fan
When we first met Minya in A DAY IN THE LIFE, many Xena fans recognized her immediately. For some of us, it was almost like looking in a mirror. Minya looks a lot like the average woman and acts like one was well. And in her own way, she, like Xena, has those traits that most women like to think that they have or would like to have: strength, courage and loyalty. When Minya meets Xena, she reacts the same way most Xena's fans would react: she gets a major case of celebrityitus. The common symptoms include squealing, a rapid heart rate, telling the celebrity her name (as in "You're Xena!"), praising the celebrity, and re-telling some of the celebrity's great acts. Like any good fan, Minya can describe Xena's adventures on a moment's notice. She also shows a desire to look good in front of the celebrity, so she tells Xena some of her own good character traits: "I'm as strong as a bull. And I can read. That's a pretty rare combination in these parts". Minya is eager to help Xena and fully enters, as Gabrielle puts it, the "do anything to please the Warrior Princess phase". By doing so, Minya fulfills the Xena fan fantasy of being in on the action and basking in the glow of Xena's glory. In her first moments with Xena, Minya reveals more than a tendency toward celebrityitus. She shows that she is courageous by staying in the village to face the giant when the others ran away. By doing so, she also reveals her loyalty to her village and to her boyfriend, Hower. Minya shows that she loves Hower when she seems concerned that he had not returned to the village. When Minya tells Hower that Xena is "so strong, so confident, so brave", she is admiring traits in Xena that Minya herself has. It is when she sees that Hower has fallen for Xena that her own self-confidence as a woman is crushed and replaced by jealousy. Minya's jealousy cures her of her celebrityitus by allowing her to see Xena as just another woman and as a rival. She becomes bitter and angry, not afraid to confront Xena. By taking possession of Xena's whip, Minya takes the first step in standing up to Xena. "You're not the only tough broad around here!" She shouts at Xena. For her part, Xena recognizes that Minya is a good woman and rather than respond to Minya's anger, she tries to solve the problem. For all her anger, Minya is willing to listen when Xena gives her some advice. Taking part in Xena's adventures is one Xena fan fantasy, but the ultimate fantasy is more than just being in on the action. It is being Xena herself. When she takes Xena's advice, Minya has a chance to see what it is like to be Xena. She finds her own leather warrioress outfit, complementing Xena's whip nicely. Minya steps out feeling strong, brave and confident, not hesitating when the crazed warlord Zagreus threatens Xena. Even Zagreus recognizes her Xena imitation as valid when he bellows, "Another one!" Though clumsy, Minya goes after Zagreus and he never stands a chance against her. Hower sees her in a new way and likes what he sees. Their relationship, which may have become comfortable and predictable, is renewed. It seems to me that Minya was created as a tribute to Xena's women fans and I find it a complimentary one. Though she has her silly moments, Minya is never foolish. Her strength of character and courage is fully acknowledged. Though she is emotional, her emotions are honest, from being thrilled by meeting Xena to her jealousy of Xena and fear of losing Hower. Her emotions do not make her irrational, as she is willing to listen to Gabrielle and Xena as they figure out a way to solve the Hower problem. Minya is not a great beauty or has a "Hollywood" body type, and neither is most of Xena's fans, but she is not ugly either. She represents the average female fan and is given the opportunity to fulfill a couple of fan fantasies. Xena first reacts to her with the same bemusement that many celebrities feel when meeting their fans. She accepts Minya as she is and treats her as she would any of her companions. Xena never looks down on Minya and cares enough about her to help her with Hower. How Xena acts with Minya is the same way fans would want her to act if they were in Minya's shoes. Later, in THE QUILL IS MIGHTIER..., Minya shows that she is not just another Xena wannabe. She maintains her new look because it suits her personality. Minya continues to prove her courage and strength as she never hesitates to fight and be in on the action. She indulges in more celebrityitus with Ares and Aphrodite, but delights in the fact that Aphrodite isn't that different from her. With Ares, she makes sure that she is at his side at every opportunity, fulfilling another fan fantasy. But, she sees him as he really is and, in the end, he does not impress her. Except in a purely physical way, of course. Ares cannot help but impress many women that way. In this episode, Minya continues to represent most female Xena fans in positive ways. [VM]
