Maell | ALTARED STATES (19/119)
Played by Karl Urban, who also appeared as Julius Caesar in
DESTINY (36/212) and Cupid in FOR HIM THE BELL
TOLLS (40/216) and COMEDY OF EROS (46/222) |
| In ALTARED STATES, Maell
was the
evil older brother of Icus, the Xenaverse equivalent to the
biblical Isaac. He was responsible for drugging his father
into believing that he must sacrifice his youngest son to
God to prove his faith. He resorted to this scheme when he
found out that his father intended to name his younger
brother as their clan's next leader - instead of following
tradition giving that position to the eldest boy in the
family. He believed that Xena was a "freak of nature" and as
such was an "affront to God" which could only mean that she
must die, with the aid of Maell and his band of loyal
followers. At the end of ALTARED STATES, Mael
refuses to
take Xena's hand to save himself, and he falls off a cliff,
allowing "God's will [to] be done." [RG] |

Manus | DREAMWORKER (03/103)
Played by Nathaniel Lees, who also appeared in
DESTINY (36/212) as Nicklio |
| Manus was a priest of Morpheus,
and definitely the power behind the godhood (so to speak).
He had Gabrielle kidnapped to sacrifice her blood innocence
to the god. He was killed by Xena. Appearance:
DREAMWORKER
(03/103). [CC] |

Maphias | REMEMBER NOTHING (26/202)
Played by Robert Harte |
| Xena's finacee in an alternative
timeline. He betrayed Xena, Lyceus, and Gabrielle through
his naivity, but made up for it by rescuing them. He fought
with them against the warlords in the end. |
 |
Marcus | THE PATH NOT TAKEN (05/105) and
MORTAL BELOVED (16/116)
Played by Bobby Hosea |
| Xena's great love. In
THE PATH NOT TAKEN, she got him to take a walk on
the "right" path, but only moments before he got
shish-kabobbed. In MORTAL BELOVED, Xena arranged for
him to
have 24 hours back on Earth to recover Hades' helmet of
invisibility. That turned out to be more time than enough
for a quickie with Xena and to convince Hades to transfer
him from Tartarus to the Elysian Fields. He was
Xena's... friend. |
 |
Marleus | A FISTFUL OF DINARS (14/114)
Played by John Smith [who also played Bloomer in LOST
MARINER] |
| Marleus appears very briefly as
the man who had originally hired the assassin Thersites to
bring him the head of Covenus. He confronts Thersites, who
has forgotten about his assignment in his excitement over
Sumerian treasure and ambrosia, and threatens to kill him
along with Xena, Gabrielle, and Petracles. He is quickly
dispatched by Thersites, who kills Marleus with a
spring-loaded dagger hidden in his sleeve. [ND] |

Marmax | IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE?
(24/124)
Played by Ray Woolf |
| Marmax was a Mitoan general in
the civil war being fought around the medical temple in
IS THERE A DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE? Xena wounded him in
the
shoulder to bring him with her into the temple, presumably to
utilize his help - he wasn't badly wounded - and ultimately
to show him what the war had become, so that he would put a
stop to it. Though he tries to make his cause sound just,
Xena doesn't buy it, and she forces him to re-examine his
methods and his 'cause'. Gabrielle tells him a touching
story that teaches him a lot, whether he knows it at the
time or not, about finding peace within yourself and sharing
it with the world. He lends a hand in Ephiny's delivery, and
tries to get Xena to let Gabrielle go when she seems to have
died. As we know, Gabrielle wakes up, and Marmax does put
an end to the war by negotiating with the opposition.

Meleager | THE PRODIGAL (19/119) and THE
EXECUTION (41/217)
Played by Tim Thomerson |
| Meleager is one of Gabrielle's
childhood heros, and becomes a fatherly figure to her in
both THE PRODIGAL and THE EXECUTION.
When we first meet him,
Meleager is obviously very drunk, and he stays that way
until Gabrielle brings him out of his bout of severe
self-pity, just in time to save her village. As a recovering
alcoholic, Meleager was willing to do anything to cover up
the fact that he had been drinking again -- trying not to
disappoint Gabrielle. In THE EXECUTION, his desire
to remain
heroic in Gabrielle's eyes almost got him killed. Gabrielle
got him out of jail, then defended him by putting herself
between Meleager and Xena, when Xena was fulfilling a
promise to bring him back to stand trial. Xena saved the day
by proving that the judge that condemned Meleager was
dishonest, not to mention he tried to twist justice into his
own creation by manipulating events and people. At the end
of the episode, all is right between Meleager and Gabrielle
and we are even led to believe that Meleager may be the
person to fulfill the position vacated by the crooked judge.

Menelaus, King | BEWARE OF GREEKS BEARING GIFTS
(12/112)
Played by Ken Blackburn |
| Husband of Helen. He went after
her after Paris abducted her and took her to Troy. He
brought most of Greece with him and wound up destroying Troy
and creating one of the most powerful and popular stories in
human history. In the Xenaverse, all he really does is plot
with Demophobus, Paris' brother, only to be eventually
betrayed by the same. |
 |
Menticles | THE PRICE (44/220)
Played by Paul Glover |
| After Galipan's death, Menticles
and Mercer are in command of the fort. Luckily for them,
Xena arrives and then takes over. Menticles is much more
filled with hype and machoisms than Mercer. Menticles wanted
to further torture the Horde prisoner, G'Kug, but Xena
leashed him in. |
 |
Mercer | THE PRICE (44/220). Played
by Charles Mesure |
| A young, dark-haired man, Mercer
is leading the small contingent of Athenian soldiers who
meet up with Xena and Gabrielle when they are attacked by
the Horde. He takes them to the fort. When their commander
Galipan dies, Mercer and Menticles take over and appoint
Xena de facto commander. Menticles is the gung-ho one, and
Mercer is the pragmatic one. Mercer is chosen to sneak out
of the fort for reinforcements. He dies but has enough
strength to drag himself back near the fort where he utters
his last words that, yup, he should have done what Xena told
him and that he never got to call for
reinforcements. |

Mesas | HOOVES &
HARLOTS (10/110)
Played by Anthony Starr [who also played David in GIANT
KILLER] |
| Centaur who gets hurt trying to
attack Xena. She ends up saving his life. Looks suspiciously
like the Israelite David. [SR]
As Xena first approaches the Centaur village to mediate for
the Amazons, Mesas, a young Centaur, appears from behind a
tree and shoots at her with an arrow, which she deflects. He
then charges at her with a lance. Xena shoves him into a
fallen tree where he breaks his ribs and is unable to
breathe. Confronted with Tyldus, Xena offers to heal Mesas,
which she does by numbing his chest, then opening a hole and
sticking her hand inside his chest to set his ribs. His only
line is "I can't feel my chest," after Xena puts the touch
on him. Later, he is seen at Tyldus' side when Tyldus goes
to the Amazon village to get his son Phantes back. Then when
the Centaurs and Amazons join forces against Krykus, Mesas
is one of the Centaurs pulling the chariot with Xena and
Melosa, and then joins in on the battle at Tyldus'
side. |
 |
Mesmer | DREAMWORKER (03/103)
Played by Michael Daly |
| While in Xena's dreamscape,
Mesmer is the first of her victims to come to her. After the
others join him, he invites Xena to kill them all again.
Xena realizes that this is a trick by Morpheus to slow her
down, so she moves on. We never get to hear Mesmer's wife's
name. |

REMEMBER NOTHING (26/202)

| Mezentius was a cruel and lusty
arms dealer. He first appeared in THE PATH NOT TAKEN
as
Marcus's boss. He was very attracted to Xena, who had
infiltrated his army to rescue a kidnapped princess. Xena
killed him after Marcus was murdered. Mezentius was also
featured in the alternate-timeline episode REMEMBER
NOTHING.
In a world where Xena had chosen not to be a warrior, he had
succeeded in capturing Potedeia and enslaving Gabrielle,
who ultimately killed him. [CC] |
